WRITE UP OF PRESENT WORK/ RESEARCH INTEREST:

In order to have a deep insight of Leishmania promastigote to amastigote transformation,

ultrastructural study of the organism is of immense importance. Both TEM and SEM are useful to
study the organelle translocation if any during transformation or during the exposure of stress and
to observe the flagellar changes, size, shape and length modifications associated with
transformation. Amazingly no transcriptional regulations with defined transcription factors are
documented in Leishmania. So, involvement of translational control and epigenetic markers might
play crucial roles in activation of Sherp 1, anti-oxidant enzymes and G1 arrest manifesting genes that
all together accomplish amastigote transformation. Consequently, we intend to focus on the
epigenetic changes during transformation and associated spatial alterations within nuclear
compartments. Hence, cryo-electron microscopy and tomography to see the epigenetic changes in
Leishmania will be of our great interest. So, this workshop will be of great help to our research as the
data that can be obtained from TEM, SEM and cryo electron microscopy will validate our claim and
strengthen our hypothesis.
