A WOLF AND A DOG

Once there was a wolf who was nearly dead with hunger. He was very thin, so that the outline
of his bones could be seen clearly beneath his thinning coat of hair. With hardly enough
energy to walk, the wolf had little hope of finding food. As he lay beneath a large tree, a dog
out for a walk noticed him. Seeing how thin and hungry-looking the wolf was, the dog felt
sorry for him and said, "You are in terrible shape! You look as if you haven't eaten for many
days."

"You're right," said the wolf. "I haven't eaten because you and your friends are doing such a
good job of guarding the sheep. Now I am so weak that I have little hope of finding food. I
think I will surely die."

Then why not join us? Asked the dog. "I work regularly and I eat regularly. You could do the
same. I will arrange it. You can help me and the other dogs guard the sheep. In that way, we
won't have to worry about your stealing the sheep anymore and you won't have to worry
about going hungry any more. It's a good deal for both of us."

The wolf thought it over for a few minutes and then decided that the dog was right. So they
went off together toward the ranch house where the dog lived. But, as they were walking, the
wolf noticed that the hair on a certain part of the dog's neck was very thin. He was curious
about this, for the dog had such a beautiful coat everywhere else. Finally, he asked the dog
about it.

"Oh, don't worry about that," said the dog. "It's the place where the collar rubs on my neck
when my master chains me up at night."

"Chained up!" cried the wolf, "Do you mean that you are chained up at night? If I come to
live with you, will I be chained up at night too?"

That's right," answered the dog. "But, You'll get used to it soon enough. I hardly think about
it anymore."

"But, if I am chained up, then I won't be able to walk when I want to take a walk or to run
where I want to run," the wolf said. "If I come to live with you, I won't be free anymore."
After saying this, the wolf turned and ran away.
A MOUSE AND A LION
Once, as a lion lay sleeping in his den, a naughty little mouse ran up his tail, onto his back, up
his mane and danced and jumped on his head, so that the lion woke up.

Lion angry grabbed the mouse and, holding him in his large claws, roared in anger. 'How dare
you wake me up ! Don't you know that I am King of the Beasts? Anyone who disturbs my rest
deserves to die! I shall kill you and eat you!'

The terrified mouse, shaking and trembling, begged the lion to let him go. 'Please don't eat me
Your Majesty! I did not mean to wake you, it was a mistake. I was only playing. Please let me
go - and I promise I will be your friend forever. Who knows but one day I could save your life?'

The lion looked at the tiny mouse and laughed. 'You save my life? What an absurd idea!' he
said scornfully. 'But you have made me laugh, and put me into a good mood again, so I shall
let you go.' And the lion opened his claws and let the mouse go free.

'Oh thank you, your majesty,' squeaked the mouse, and scurried away as fast as he could.

A few days later the lion was caught in a hunter's snare. Struggle as he might, he couldn't break
free and became even more entangled in the net of ropes. He let out a roar of anger that shook
the forest. Every animal heard it, including the tiny mouse.

The mouse was rushing to the source of its roar and he found the lion was powerless. The
mouse then bit the rope that caught the lion so that the lion can escape from the trap. The lions
are very grateful to the mouse, and they became friends best forever.
CINDERELLA

Once upon a time there lived an unhappy young girl. Her mother was dead and her father had
married a widow with two daughters. Her stepmother didn’t like her one little bit. All her kind
thoughts and loving touches were for her own daughters. She had to work hard all day. Only
when evening came was she allowed to sit for a while by the fire, near the cinders. That’s why
everybody called her Cinderella.

Cinderella used to spend long hours all alone talking to the cat. The cat said, “Miaow“, which
really meant, “Cheer up! You have something neither of your stepsisters has and that is beauty.”
It was quite true. Cinderella, even dressed in old rags, was a lovely girl. While her stepsisters,
no matter how splendid and elegant their clothes, were still ugly and always would be.

One day, beautiful new dresses arrived at the house. A ball was to be held at the palace and the
stepsisters were getting ready to go. Cinderella didn’t even dare ask if she could go too. She
knew very well what the answer would be: “You? You’re staying at home to wash the dishes,
scrub the floors and turn down the beds for your stepsisters.” Cinderella sighed, “Oh dear, I’m
so unhappy!” and the cat murmured “Miaow.”

Suddenly something amazing happened. As Cinderella was sitting all alone, there was a burst
of light and a fairy appeared. “Don’t be alarmed, Cinderella,” said the fairy. “I know you would
love to go to the ball. And so you shall!” Cinderella replied, “How can I, dressed in rags?”

The fairy smiled. With a flick of her magic wand Cinderella found herself wearing the most
beautiful dress she had ever seen. Said the fairy; “A real lady would never go to a ball on foot!
Quick! Get me a pumpkin!” “Oh of course,” said Cinderella, rushing away. Then the fairy
turned to the cat. “You, bring me seven mice, and, remember they must be alive!”

Cinderella soon returned with the pumpkin and the cat with seven mice he had caught in the
cellar. With a flick of the magic wand the pumpkin turned into a sparkling coach and the mice
became six white horses, while the seventh mouse turned into a coachman in a smart uniform
and carrying a whip. Cinderella could hardly believe her eyes.

“You shall go to the ball Cinderella. But remember! You must leave at midnight. That is when
my spell ends. Your coach will turn back into a pumpkin and the horses will become mice
again. You will be dressed in rags and wearing clogs instead of these glass slippers! Do you
understand?” Cinderella smiled and said, “Yes, I understand!”

Cinderella had a wonderful time at the ball until she heard the first stroke of midnight! She
remembered what the fairy had said, and without a word of goodbye she slipped from the
Prince’s arms and ran down the steps. As she ran she lost one of her slippers, but not for a
moment did she dream of stopping to pick it up! If the last stroke of midnight were to sound…
oh… what a disaster that would be! Out she fled and vanished into the night.
The Prince, who was now madly in love with her, picked up the slipper and said to his ministers,
“Go and search everywhere for the girl whose foot this slipper fits. I will never be content until
I find her!” So the ministers tried the slipper on the foot of every girl in the land until only
Cinderella was left.

“That awful untidy girl simply cannot have been at the ball,” snapped the stepmother. “Tell the
Prince he ought to marry one of my two daughters! Can’t you see how ugly Cinderella is?”but,
to everyone’s amazement, the shoe fitted perfectly.

Suddenly the fairy appeared and waved her magic wand. In a flash, Cinderella appeared in a
splendid dress, shining with beauty. Her stepmother and stepsisters gaped at her in amazement,
and the ministers said, “Come with us Cinderella! The Prince is waiting for you.“ So Cinderella
married the Prince and lived happily ever. As for the cat, he just said “Miaow!”

Pinocchio. “How nice it would be if it were a real baby!”.

now you’ve got a soul!” she made her magic spell touching Pinocchio with her magic wand.
“Pinocchio , be always a good , brave and a selfless boy , ” said the Fairy , ” and one day you’ll
be a real boy ! ” Then, she addressed to Jiminy Cricket: “I appoint you guide and counsellor of
Pinocchio, ” she added, before disappearing in a thousand flashes of light. Imagine the delight
of Geppetto when he discovered that his little man of wood could move and talk! The next

puppets. But, when the show was over, Eater shut him in a cage. Suddenly, there appeared the
Blue Fairy: “Why did not you go to school?” she asked. Pinocchio answered with a lie and his
nose began to grow. Only when he told the truth, the Fairy freed him and his nose was back to
normal. On the way home, Pinocchio saw a coach load of kids cheering. The coachman told
him that he was directed to Toyland, where the kids could do whatever they wanted.

“Pinocchio, come back!” Jiminy Cricket ran after him. But the puppet would not listen to him.
There Pinocchio met a new boy Candlewick: The two ate as many sweets as they could and
enjoyed themselves very much. But he soon discovered that in Toyland the lazy and rude kids
were turned into donkeys. When it began to spring two ears and long tail, Pinocchio ran
desperately, followed by his faithful friend. Jiminy Cricket Together, then returned to the house
of Geppetto , but they found none. “Who knows what that happened to him!” At that moment,
a dove brought them a message: while Geppetto was looking for Pinocchio everywhere, he was
swallowed by a whale and now he was his prisoner. “I want to save him!” decided the puppet.
Arriving at the sea, he dived an dived till he found his father in the belly of the whale. But how
to get out of there? So he lit a fire and the smoke made the whale sneeze so strong that, she
opened its mouth.

Pinocchio and Geppetto escaped on a raft. The puppet helped his father to swim in the middle
of the waves: and they finally reached the shore! But as soon as they arrived Pinocchio, for the
great effort fainted. Grief-stricken, Geppetto took him home. The Blue Fairy, awoke him and,
