HUMSS- NICK JOAQUIN

The dimasalang is a historical and musical play. Where story parallel the life of our
national hero Dr. Jose Rizal as an illustrator his staff is brought up in two personas
where each has his own method of achieving freedom eventually drops of ink or drops
of blood should be offered to the people for his freedom

The story begins with an experimental scene in which the oppresion of the indiyo and
the rule of the spaniards in the government begins with Doña martina echevera quijote
y markova symbolizing penunsulares and civilians being exploited and lieutenant escara
symbolizing the power of the military officers during the colonization

isabel decides to marry a lieutenant escara to save her family from poverty and away
from the spaniards slavery her decision is saddened by her sister adelina's knowing she
will never change her decision his brother isabel meanwhile came from spain juancho
alonzo an illlustrator

encountered by his younger brother mateo and his mother saturnina the happy
encounter led to the brother's tension with a coomon belief in achieving independence
of the country juancho wanted a peaceful way of writing propaganda and mateo, on the
other hand was in violent ways trough the revolution. mateo was disappointed in his
older brother because he had changed since leaving for europe to study at the retreat of
lieutenant escara in their bario he noted that the indio people had read letters that the
writings had the abuse of friars and government officials promptly ordered his guards to
lay charges to arrest the subversive criminal who wrote the letters

Mateo noted that the indigenous people were increasingly complaining about the
abuses of the foreign castes and the statements of the offender persuaded them but
restored the courage of their character to fight the oppressors. Mateo knew that the
intended defendant was his brother so he immediately spoke to her. juancho admitted
that he was guilty and that he was able to make the writings to continue the history that
Dr rizal had begun for his people. juancho's achievements were deeply admired by
Matthew despite their ideological differences about achieving independence.
unfortunately, he was arrested by Lieutenant Escara when he found out he was the
leader of the revolution in their village. Saturn was also arrested on a charge of robbery
at the behest of dona martina. When lieutenant escara killed his wife, Isabel, he blamed
Adelina for the incident and was also trapped

When juancho learned of the circumstances, he surrendered himself and admitted that
he was guilty of the liberty of the three. Lieutenant escara agreed on the condition that
juancho admit that his writing was futile and would tell the audience that the Indians
would remain slaves to their people. juancho's day of judgment in the lead instead of
obeying the enemy's wishes he shouted to the crowd that they were not slaves and that
freedom was right for the people. The lieutenant escara was angry and immediately
ordered the guards to shoot juancho but was saved by his brother and loved ones.

even though juancho was saved he was still sad because Dr. Jose Rizal even condemned
both of them. he said if the india had not been cowardly and as brave as it is today, his
friend would still be alive and he would illustrate it. In the end, juancho knows that even
if the writer dies, his or her beliefs and stories will remain in their hearts and minds.
