Philosophy of Teaching

All teachers have reasons on why they teach and how they teach. This is understandable

because that provides the foundation for their style of teaching. I believe that every student is

different and requires different methods of explanation of information to help them learn. There

are many different ways to teach information in the classroom. We as teachers need to try and

expose our students to as many different methods as possible to help them best understand the

topics we are trying to teach. We need to be there for ever student to help them be as successful

as they can be through all their academic years.

Students all learn in different ways. This means if we only use one style of teaching in

our classrooms, we will never reach all of the students and it will be very unbeneficial. We need

to expose them to hands-on activities, technological activities, writing activities, and listening

activities. Listening activities such as lectures and teacher modelling is one of the standard ways

of teaching. This is one way that students can take in information and some students can learn a

lot just from listening to the teacher. We do need to take it a step further. Students also need

different ways to apply that knowledge and further their understanding of the topic. We can do

this using writing. We can get a decent idea of what they understand through their writing.

Another way we can assess their understanding of a topic is hands-on activities. This gets the

moving and using the knowledge they acquired in a physical. Sometimes physically working

with an object or objects helps take that knowledge to another level of understanding for the

students. We are also in the age of technology. These students are interacting with technology on

a daily basis which is why we need to incorporate technological activities and assessments into

our lessons. Technology does change and will be a large part of their future. This will help
reinforce the knowledge of the topic in another way and help prepare them for their use of

technology in the future.

There are many different ways to assess and expand our teaching to further the

understanding of the information taught in the classroom. This also helps us to reach every

student effectively with the information we are trying to teach. Students need different ways of to

help reinforce the information in the most beneficial way. We, as teachers, need to try and reach

every student to help them fully understand all information that is being taught in the classroom.
