The Dumbbell Oracle

8 inches in width and 21 inches in length

 20-pound dumbbell

 5-pound barbell plate

 Myofascial release ball

 2.5-pound barbell plate

 Tiger ball

To build this sculpture I used a 20-pound dumbbell for the base. I used gorilla glue to adhere

the 5-pound barbell plate to the dumbbell. I then glued the myofascial release ball on top of the

5-pound plate. Then came the adhering of the 2.5-pound barbell plate on the myofascial

release ball and subsequently the gluing of the tiger ball atop to finish the sculpture.

I have been researching the history of the religion I was raised in so my thoughts have been

in a spiritual place as I reconstruct and attempt to understand my past. This inevitably poured

over into this art project, hence the use of the word oracle in the title. The reason I chose

fitness related materials is because I have all sorts of equipment lying around lifting weights has

been a foundational activity for the building of my personality.

The only challenge I faced while building my structure was the adhering of the rubber to

metal. I was using original glue at first and switched to gorilla glue to fix this problem.

I am pleased with my sculpture because I think there is a mystical feel to the

arrangement and congruence of the different aspects of the piece. It really captures the

spiritual place that I have been in this past week.
