A Detailed Lesson Plan in MAPEH VIII

By: Mark Vincent Sios-e Agan

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. Define what are the different types of muscles.

b. Identify what do muscles need in order to worl properly.

c.Describe how the muscle work together in groups.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Types of Muscles

Materials:, cartolina, glue, scissor, construction papers

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Preparation

“Good afternoon class!” “Good afternoon sir!”

“Before we start our class, let us first have our prayer.

(name of student) please lead the prayer.”

“Say ‘present’ if your name is called.” “Present sir!”

“Let’s recall our classroom rules.”

CLASSROOM RULES
(The teacher will discuss the Classroom Rules.) “Ok sir.”

B. Motivation
“Do you want an activity?”

“Yes, sir.”
“Okay, we will have an activity called “GUESS
WHAT”.

“I want you to form a group. Please count off, start

from one to three.
Choose a representative to get the envelope here in
front.”
“Okay class , listen to the instructions. First, you open
the envelope and inside it you will see a picture with
scrambled letters. Your task is to solve the scrambled
letters to create a word. Raise your hand if you are
done.

“Do you understand?”

Okay, start now.

(after the activity)

“Okay class, you may now go back to your respective

seats.”

C. Presentation

“Now,what can you see on the board?”

“Are those words corresponds to the pictures on the

board?”

“That’s right.”

D. Discussion

“Today we are going to discuss the types of muscles

in our body”
There are three types of muscles:

 Skeletal Muscles – Are voluntary muscles that

move bones. Are attached to tendons which are
attached to bones. Are called striated because
they look striped. Skeletal Muscles are those
which attach to bones and have the main
function of contracting to facilitate movement
of our skeletons. They are also sometimes
known as striated muscles due to their
appearance. The cause of this 'stripy'
appearance is the bands of Actin and Myosin
which form the Sarcomere, found within the
Myofibrils.Skeletal muscles are also
sometimes called voluntary muscles because
we have direct control over them through
nervous impulses from our brains sending
messages to the muscle. Contractions can vary
to produce powerful, fast movements or small
precision actions. Skeletal muscles also have
the ability to stretch or contract and still return
to their original shape.

 Smooth Muscles – are involuntary muscles

that makes up the blood vessels, stomach,
intestines, and other groups. We cannot control
our smooth muscles. Smooth muscle is also
sometimes known as Involuntary muscle due
to our inability to control its movements, or
unstriated as it does not have the stripy
appearance of Skeletal muscle. Smooth muscle
is found in the walls of hollow organs such as
the Stomach, Oesophagus, Bronchi and in the
walls of blood vessels. This muscle type is
stimulated by involuntary neurogenic impulses
and has slow, rhythmical contractions used in
controlling internal organs, for example,
moving food along the Oesophagus or
constricting blood vessels during
Vasoconstriction.
What are somes example of when our smooth
muscles are used?
 Cardiac Muscles- A special kind of
involuntary, striated (striped) muscle that
makes up the heart. The muscles in the heart
contract in order to pump the blood through
your body. If your muscles stops pumping the
blood, you have a heart attack. This type of
muscle is found solely in the walls of the heart.
It has similarities with skeletal muscles in that
it is striated and with smooth muscles in that its
contractions are not under conscious control.
However, this type of muscle is highly
specialised. It is under the control of the
autonomic nervous system, however, even
without a nervous input contraction can occur
due to cells called pacemaker cells. Cardiac
muscle is highly resistant to fatigue due to the
presence of a large number of mitochondria,
myoglobin and a good blood supply allowing
continuous aerobic metabolism.

What do muscles need?

 Muscles need oxygen in order to work
properly.
 When they do not get enough oxygen, they can
get sore or cramp up.
 When the muscles in your heart do not get
enough oxygen , you can have a heart attack.

How do muscles move our bones.

Do muscles pull or push our bones?
 Muscles pull in order to make our bones move.
 One muscle contracts (pull) while the opposite
muscle relaxes.
It is very important for us to take very good care of
our bodies. We need to eat healthy foods and exercise
our muscles regularly.

E. Application
"Let's try to check whether you have learned
something today.
Okay, I will give a scenario and all you need to do is “Yes sir”.
to identify on which muscle is being used.
“Do you understand?”

1. Ton2x just ate his sandwich for lunch. Which

muscle is going to help him digest that
sandwich?

2. Jaymar’s mom saw Jaymar score a goal in his

game, so she started clapping. What muscle did
she sue to clap her hands?

3. Mr. Jeo was taken to the hospital because he is

having chest pain. Which muscles are probably
causing this pain?

F. Generalization
“So class in your own idea, what do muscles need in
order to work properly?”
“ and what are the three types of muscle?”

“Thank You , so now we already know what are the

three types of muscles,”
IV. Evaluation

Direction: Answer the questions carefully and write it

in a one whole sheet of paper.

1. What are the three types of muscles? Explain

each.

2. What will happen if we do not have any

muscle?

3. What do muscles need in order to work

properly?

“Are you done answering?”

V. Assignment.

“ Okay, please copy your assignments on the board.”

Answer this in your notebook.

1. What happens when we do not use our

muscles?

2. Give some examples of when this may

happen.
