The Southwest Region The Southwestern United States, also known as the American Southwest, Desert Southwest, or simply The Southwest, is the informal name for a region of the western United States. There were not many grazing animals, so instead farming was popular for food production. The geography of the region is mainly made up by Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan Deserts, also mountains, mesas, canyons. Vegetation of The Southwest generally includes various types of saguaro cactus and invasive plants. Although cacti is thought to only grow in Arizona and New Mexico. Religion In the Southwest region lived the most popular Indians as the Pueblo, Navajo, and Apache tribes. Like most Indian religions, those of the Southwest Indians were generally characterized by animism and shamanism. Today, Catholics, Protestants, Mormons and other non-Mormon, non-Catholic Christians are the major percentage religious residents in the region.
