QC100 Excellence
BLD.’s goal when implementing
the Quality Mix is to introduce qual-
ity culture in superior local, nation
al and global companies around the
world.
BALD. has established six types
of initiatives: the Total Quality
Management QC100 Award, the
Marketing Boomerang, corporate
image improvement, major pres
ence in the media, the quality pro-
motion campaign as a continuous
process of development and busi
ness success. The latter consists of a
systematic analysis of the complete
life cycle in the development of a
product or service; the goal being to
gain an advantageous position over
competitors,
Other awards in the business
world recognizing merit, such as
the Deming of Japan, the European
Quality Prize of the EFOM, the
Shingo Award, the Ishikawa Medal,
and the Malcolm Baldrige Award in
the U.S., are different from the BALD.
Award. ‘To merit the B.LD’s recog-
nition , company leaders themselves
from around the globe are the ones
that carry out the selection of the
companies and organizations to be
awarded, The winners are chosen by
their business peers for one intrin=
sic aspect: commitment to the prin

King Fahd Industrial
Port in Jubail
One of Saudi Arabia's leading ports, handling over 46
million tons of cargo last year, honored by B.I.D.
Located on the eastern shore of
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the
Red Sea, the King Fahd Industrial
Port in Jubail began construction
in 1974, It was developed with
the intention of handling the im-
port and export of raw materials
and industrial products, required
and produced by local industries
in the nearby Jubail Industry City;
the most active industrial city in
Saudi Arabia and indeed the larg-
est of its kind in the world. Since
then, it has become the port it is
today: 9 kilometers in length and
operating 24 hours a day, 365 days
per year. Through maintaining high
standards of efficiency and safe-
ty in shipping, the port is consid-
ered one of the most important in
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is
held in regard as an example to the
shipping community
The King Fahd
Industrial Port in Jubail
handles 95% of the
country’s imports and
70% of its exports and
is visited by 12,000
ships annually.
King Fahd Industrial Port, the
biggest oil-loading port on the Red
Sea, has a total of 27 berths; 19 of
which are fully operational, 5 are
available for shallow draft ves-
sels and port craft and 3 are ca~
pable of accepting vessels up to
346 meters in length. ‘The lat
ter three were completed in March
2009 by Archirodon Construction
Overseas and commissioned by
The Royal Commission for Jubail &
Yanbu. In February last year, Saudi
Arabia Transport Minister Jabara
Al-Seraisry, announced plans
to further expand the King Fahd
Industrial Port as part of a plan
to expand seaports in the Eastern
Province in order to cope with the
predicted rise in maritime services
in the region and to ease conge:
tion at the major ports.
The port handles 95% of Saudi
Arabia's imports and 70% of its ex-
ports, and is visited by 12,000 ships
annually. A variety of cargo pass-
es through the port including bulk
solids, such as chemical fertilizers
and iron ore; and bulk liquids, such
as refined petroleum products and
liquid petroleum gas products. In
2010 the King Fahd Industrial Port
received a total of 8,677,377 tons of
cargo and loaded 37,708,552 tons,
a total port throughout of over 46
million tons; a number continuing
to grow year after year
The port’s marine services are
contracted on a ten year basis to
National Port Services L.td., which
provides services including diving
and underwater works, pollution
and petrochemical spill control,
buoy installation and repair, rescue
services, control tower operations,
ship repair, marine hydrograph-
ic surveys and pilotage and tugging
services. This partnership enables
King Fahd Industrial Port to con-
tinue to operate at a high standard
and provide the smooth services
and excellent quality to which it is
committed and to which its clients
have become accustomed.
King Fahd Industrial Port in
Jubail, a previous BLD. award-
ee, was once again acknowledged,
this time with the IQS Award for
its enduring commitment to qua
y service. Mr. Abdullah Nasser
Al-Tuwaijri, the port's General
Director, accepted the award on
behalf of the company in May
2011 at B.LD’s _ International
Quality Summit Conference in New
York. The Award was present-
ed by Business Initiative Directions
President and C.E.O., Jose E, Prieto.
