This research aims at analyzing the practice of learning

organization conducted by the Kabanjahe General
Hospital, North Sumatera Province, Indonesia, which
had low Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) before 2014. Bad
management was lead the community were lacking
choose this hospital as a health service to overcome
their health problem. The research were conducted by a
case study method. It was found that the practice of
learning organization including being adaptive to
Abstract*: changes in the external environment, involving
employees in decision making, performing mutual
learning in the teamwork, and having positive mental
model since 2014 has significantly changed the working
atmosphere in this hospital as well as increased BOR of
the hospital: 61% in 2014, 68% in 2015, and 70% in 2016.
It indicated that the practice of learning organization in
Kabanjahe General Hospital has succeeded in improving
the performance of the hospital and it can be followed
by other general hospitals getting the similar problem.
