India

 The Indian subcontinent is the birthplaces of four of the world’s major religion: Hinduism, Buddhism,
Jainism, and Sikhism.
 Hinduism is the major religion of India, with over 80% of the population identifying themselves as
Hindu.
 Is Hinduism among world religions in the sense that it has no founder or specific date of origin.
 It arose around the ancient Kingdom of Magadha, now in Bihar, India.
 This Buddhism is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama who was considered a “Buddha” or
the “Awakened One”.
 The Buddhist community split into two branches but each of which spread throughout India.
 Buddhism remains the primary or a major religion in the Himalayan areas.
Holy Land
 Is an area roughly located between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
 As geographic term loosely encompassed modern-day Israel, the Palestinian territories, and Lebanon.
 It is important for all three major monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
 The multi-religious importance of Holy Land is based on the religious significance of Jerusalem, the
holiest city of Judaism, the historical region of the ministry of Jesus(founder of Christianity), and Islam’s
Isra and Mi’raj event and Mount Nebo, where Moses presumably died.
 The Holy Land includes many sites that have long been pilgrimage destinations for devotees of so
called Abrahamic religions, including Jews, Christians and Muslims.
East Asia
 The so-called East Asian religions also known as far eastern religions or Taoic religions.
 These religious traditions or philosophies focus on the East Asian concept of “Tao”(the way)
 The recognized founder was Confucius, was born in China 552 BCE.
 Confucius wished to be the adviser to a great ruler in China.
 Is the formal state religion of Japan that was first used in the 6 th century B.C.E.
 Shinto also called Shintoism has no founder, no official sacred text, and no formal system of doctrines.
 It serves as a pillar for Japanese culture and Politics.
 In fact, Shinto religious festival and ceremonies, for centuries have become indiscernment from the
affairs of the government.
