Completing a Practice video-recording Exercise from Coursera

Getting Started
1. Click on the Assignment in Coursera. You will be prompted to agree to the Honor Code. Complete the process
by clicking in the check box and entering your Legal Name. [If you are using a mobile device, please enter
Coursera through your device’s browser, NOT the Coursera app to do the recording assessments.]

2. Click the “Open Tool” button.

Overview
3. This will open Practice in a new window and take you to the Exercise page. Every exercise begins with an
Overview. You can see the Overview before an Exercise opens and after an Exercise is complete. The Overview
includes background information and also any resources provided by instructors. Access the Overview by
selecting the Overview button next to your Exercise name.

4. After reading the overview and downloading the attached resources (if any), click on the blue Let’s Get Started
button to begin the Exercise.
Prompt & Response
5. First, read the instructions (if written instructions have been included) on the right side of the video. Then,
watch the Prompt video by pressing the blue View the Prompt button.

6. After watching the Prompt video, it’s time for you to record or upload your video Response. To the right of
the Challenge video, you will see a section called Your Response. Here there are several options: Record with
iOS or Android Practice Mobile App, Record with a webcam, or Upload a video response that you recorded using
some other program on your computer. See video file types we accept. Learn more about uploading your
existing video file.

NOTE: If you’re using a mobile device, you must enter the exercise through Coursera using a browser, NOT the
Coursera app. From there, you’ll be prompted to download the Practice app.

Self-Assessment
7. After uploading your response, you’ll be asked to complete a Self-Assessment.
8. After assessing your response, you’ll be able to submit your response by clicking the blue Submit Response
button. This will unlock the Peer Assessment stage.

You’ll be asked to confirm your submission Select the blue confirm button. Once you confirm, you will no
longer be able to re-record your media file or edit your Self-Assessment.

Peer Assessment
9. In the Peer Assessment stage, you will review and give feedback to your peers. To assess your first peer, select
the blue Assess Peer Response button.
10. First, play the video in its entirety, without skipping ahead and answer the questions to the right of the video.

11. Leave time-stamped or general written feedback in the comments section below the media file.

12. When you are finished, select the blue Save Score button.
13. You are required to assess a minimum of two peers, so you will be prompted to select a second Assess Peer
Response button. After you have completed the required number of assessments, you’ll still have the option to
assess more peers. If you select the Assess Optional Peer button, you can play and assess another peer if one is
available.

14. Before you submit your Peer Assessments and move to the Reflection stage, you can go back and edit any
scores you gave your peers. To edit a Peer Assessment, select Edit on the response you want to modify.

15. Make any edits needed and be sure to select the Save Score button.

16. To submit your Peer Assessments, select the blue Submit Peer Assessment button. You will be asked if you are
sure you want to submit. Once you select the Confirm button, your Assessments cannot be edited.

Note: If there is a technical issue (i.e. there is no audio, the media keeps freezing, the media won’t play, etc.)
with a peer’s Submission, you can flag it for review. See instructions here.

Reflection stage
17. The Reflection stage includes two parts. The first part involves playing a Model Response to the Prompt &
Response media. The second part involves Self Reflection. First, click the blue View Model Response button.

18. After you play the entire Model Response (i.e. no skipping ahead), select the Proceed button to begin the
Reflection stage.
19. In the Reflection Stage you can compare your media file to the Model Response. To better inform your Self
Reflection, you have the option of re-playing the following media:
 The Model Response, by selecting the View Model Response button;
 Your own media, by selecting the View Your Response button; and
 The initial prompt, by selecting the green Prompt & Response stage at the top of the page.

When you are ready to reflect on your media file, enter your reflection into the Self-Reflection field and select
the blue Save button.

Then, select the blue Submit Self Reflection button. Only you and your Instructors will have access to your Self
Reflection.

Results

20. After you complete the Reflection stage, you will unlock the final stage in your exercise, Results.
You can play your response by pressing the Play button [1]. You can download your response file by clicking
the Download Response link [2].

View Score Comparison: This is a breakdown of your average Instructor score (if instructors evaluated), average
peer score, and Self-Assessment score for each question on the Assessment Form as well as your total score.
View Assessment List

This is a list of every assessment that you received on your submission (i.e. assessments from your Instructor,
peers, and self.

Here, you can view the written feedback an Instructor or peer left on your media file. You can also see how your
Instructor or peer answered each question on the Assessment Form. Click the Close button to return to your
results.

View Top Performers

Top Performers is a list of the submissions from the Exercise generated by average peer score. The better the
score, the higher up the learner is on the list.
