Synopsis:
The story, Sing to the Dawn tells of a young Thai girl called Dawan who
lives in the village with her family. A typical Thai village girl, she has her
early schooling in the village school in spite of gender discrimination
practised by the villagers.
- Dawan wins a scholarship to study in the city.
- Dawan tells her family that she wins the scholarship and asks
permission from her father.
- But , her father scolds Dawan. He scolds Dawan for taking Kwai’s
chance to study in the city.
- Father thinks it is useless to send girls to study because girls cannot
change anything in the village . He thinks Kwai should go to the city
because he can help the family.
- But, Dawan never gives up and she talks to her father. She gives
reasons and defends her right to study in the city.
- Besides, Dawan does not give up. Dawan’s mother brings her to
meet her cousin,Noi.
- Dawan hopes Noi and Ghan can help persuade her father to give
permission to study in the city. But, Noi does not want to help
Dawan. She said the city is a cruel place. It is not good to send a girl
to study in the city.
- Noi said girls in the city sells cigarettes and drinks. They become
slave at the city.
- But, Dawan does not give up. Dawan wants to see the city with her
own eyes. She still wants to go to the city to study.
- Then, Dawan finds the headmonk to help her persuade her father to
give permission. Dawan tells the headmonk that she wants to go to
the city because she wins the scholarship. But, the headmonk does
not want to help Dawan. The headmonk said Dawan is just a mere
school girl and she cannot help the village.
- Dawan is sad and angry with the headmonk. Dawan cries and left
the temple. Then, Dawan begins to ask whether she should study in
the city. But, after Bao gives support, Dawan is determine to study
in the city.
In conclusion, this is a good story. I hope I can become like Dawan.
