GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Laboratory demonstrations of the following systems on the academic shake-table:
1. SDOF system vibration response
2. Sinusoidal excitation of bare frame
3. Sinusoidal excitation of frame with infill

MAIN CONCEPTS
1. Natural frequency
2. Damping
3. FFT of response and frequency response function
4. Dynamic amplification
5. Influence of frequency ratio of response

SDOF SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION

For the one-story laboratory specimen, carry out the following experiments:
1. Forced vibration using sine-sweep from rest to around 10 Hz.

Record the acceleration history of the story mass in both experiments. Also collect the time history
of base acceleration. Using the results, determine the natural frequency and damping ratio of the
example system using Half-power method. Also find the transmissibility ratios for the bare frame
and with the infill. Comment on the effect on frequency ratio on the dynamic amplification.

Measure the sizes of different members of the laboratory specimen. Calculate the natural frequency
analytically based on your measured dimensions. Compare these results obtained with those from
experimental setup. Comment on your results.

Scanned pdf should submitted as a single file, including results, plots, and pictures of the FFT.

Note: Even though the experimentation and data collection are done in groups, the analysis, plotting
of graphs, etc. should be carried out individually by each student and submitted separately. Indicate
your group number in the submission.
