PROPOSAL

Sports Illustrated magazine is a magazine company solely targeted to sports

related topics. THis includes but not limited to; basketball, football, baseball, boxing,

college sports, etc. The magazine has been published since 1954 and was founded by

Henry Luce.

I would want to be the lead photographer for the company as I can bring a new

image to how sports illustrated is seen. Not only being seen as a photographer, but as

an illustrator, creating covers that give a sense of art to get the reader’s attention.

Potentially, this could lead to a whole new audience gaining interest into sports. I can

capture athletes of any kind. Whether it could be, basketball, football, swimming,

upcoming prospects, it wouldn’t matter because I can make them as the highlight if

given the opportunity.

I would most likely, take photographs in colour as I feel that black and white

wouldn’t fit on a sports cover unless referring to a late legend of a sport. Black and white

seemingly leads to a more serious matter at hand than hyping and individual or team

up. I would need a multi-colour light instead of just a white light, in order to give it that

authentic image feel instead of just photoshopped colours, to which I can enhance when

editing. However, I would have to borrow a lens.

I would be looking more towards a younger generation to bring people, who

aren’t familiar with sports into the fanbase. I feel that there are those who judge what

they read by the cover of the magazine so I would want to explore how that can be

accomplished and achieved with just colour, art and sports.
