Chess as science, art or sport:

To my way of thinking Chess has many elements of these three fields. It is science
because it has an object of study, for example.
In this aspect it also has an object of study. Chess has a methodology and a field
of application.
Chess can be considered as art because it has creativity and production. It is said
that every human activity is art.
From the point of view of sports, Chess is a sport when we participate in
tournaments and we try to win or to defeat our adversaries. In this case we try to
get victories and points in order to get the first prize or better places in
competitions. In Chess as a sport we study, analyze games and combinations. We
prepare physically and emotionally. In other words there is competitiveness and
obviously this is sport.
I would like to add another concept: Chess as a simple game. Considered just a
game, it entertains and has fun.
We can entertain and have fun even when we lose playing chess. Anyway, Chess as a
simple game has different elements that belong to science, sport and science. And
these elements make beauty possible in chess. And this is what attracts me in
Chess.
At least that's what I think.
