Lesson Plan (#1)

Objective:
The students will be able to:
· Perform dynamic warmup stretches.
· Learn/Perform a 4 wall, 32 count line dance up to tempo.
· Perform an easy line dance to Copperhead Road (if time allots) or a variety of static stretches during the
cool down activity.

Materials:
· Projector Cart
· Mac book (for music)
· Speaker

Background Information:
• A couple of students in this class are on an IEP. One usually participates to the best of her ability, and takes
breaks to rest as needed. The other student usually walks with a para for most of the class period.
• Students athletic ability ranges from average to athletic.
• Several of the students participate in a sport, and will potentially have to leave early on game days.
• The location schedule for this class:
o Monday: Fitness Room or Outside
o Tuesday: Weight Room
o Wednesday: Weight Room
o Thursday: Fitness Room or Outside
o Friday: Outside

Engagement:
· Ask students if they have ever performed a line dance at any events? (Ex. School dances, weddings, etc.)

Exploration:

1. Pre-lesson
· I will take attendance and take this time to make sure that the fitness room and music is set up for the
upcoming lesson.
2. During lesson
· Warm up
o Students will be instructed to spread out across the room. Dynamic stretches will include:
▪ Head rolls (each side) 5-10
▪ Jog in place
▪ Arm circles (forward and back)
▪ Knee hugs
▪ Quad pulls
▪ Gates (opening and closing)
▪ Jumping Jacks (20)

Footloose Steps in Order:


❖ Grapevine to the right, tap left foot. Switch and grapevine to the left, tap right foot. (Full 8 count)

❖ The K Step: Step forward to the right corner with you Right foot, bring the left foot to meet it. Next, step
back with the left foot and bring the right food to meet it. Then step back to the back right corner with the
right foot and bring the left foot to meet it. Finally, step the left foot forward and bring the right foot forward
to meet it. (Full 8 count)

❖ Heel clicks 2x (4 counts) With the right foot, heel tap 2x forward, and 2x back. (4 counts)

❖ Right heel tap forward 1x, tap left heel forward 1x, then tap right heel forward hold on 3 and 4. (4 counts)
Next tap the right toe to the back 1x, then the right foot to the side 1x, kick the same foot back and hit the
heel with your hand, scuff the right foot and turn to the left wall. (4 counts)

❖ After completing all these steps, start from the beginning! Remember, always turn to the left! (Counter
clockwise)

Application:
Proper pre and post stretching and warmups will aid in prevention of injury. This lesson will also
promote good practices in coordination, balance, spacial awareness, and counting. The goal overall is to stress
the importance of physical health and wellness that can benefit for a lifetime if continuously applied in daily
living.

Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated through observation, providing positive reinforcement and corrective
feedback as necessary.

Differentiation:
Adjustments and accommodations can be made for students that may be participating in a sport/practice
that day or injury. Students who need specific accommodations will be given rest periods as needed.
