Dear Gateway of Hope,

My name is Angelica Kim and I am currently a grade 12 student at R.E. Mountain

Secondary School. In order for us to graduate, we must complete a project called a “capstone
project,” preferably before the end of February. For my project, I have chosen to distribute care
kits to homeless people on the streets of Langley (titled Hope for the Homeless) and it would be
greatly appreciated if you could be my mentor for this project. I chose this because when I
thought about any community issue, it was the homeless issue in Langley. Anywhere I go, I
always see at least one homeless person who is in need of help.

An experience I’ve had that is relevant to this project would be attending the Coldest
Night of the Year walk which is an annual event that is made to raise awareness for homeless
people. Although I have not been homeless and do not know what it is like to be, it was difficult
walking through the cold weather, even in my thickest clothes with my family. A necessary skill I
have for this project is math skills in order to be able to find the most efficient way to buy more
for less money since I am paying for the items myself. My goal for this project is to help out a
few people in need by giving them necessities in order to give them motivation and what I ask
from you is to provide me with your experience and knowledge. I am unaware of what homeless
people truly need, where to buy the items, how much it would cost to buy them, etc. and I need
your help.

You can contact me through email which is where I respond the fastest at
angelicak1022@gmail.com and I will need to stay in touch with you throughout the project. It is
necessary that you sign off my Capstone Project Implementation Log after each session and be
involved in a brief Mentor Evaluation at the end of the Capstone Project. The evaluation will take
approximately 15 minutes to complete. If there are further questions you would like to ask my
teacher directly, you can contact Mrs. Lacroix at LLacroix@sd35.bc.ca.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Angelica Kim.
