Point System for Migration to Canada

If you are thinking about migrating to Canada then you should be aware of the point

system used to qualify migrates. The Canada point system is a compressive ranking that uses six

selection factors. The selection factors include language skills, Education, Experience, Age,

Adaptability and arranged employment in Canada. To migrate under the Federal Skilled Worker

Program one is supposed to get a score of 67 out the possible 100. The following is a breakdown

of the scores under each factor.

Language Skills (Highest points is 28)

Migrate are supposed to have the ability to communicate effectively in one of the official

languages in Canada that is English or French. The highest score under this factor is 28 points.

Points are awarded on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The candidate need to take

a test at an agency that is approved by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)

Education (Highest points is 30)

For one to get an education point they need to prove that they have a certificate or diploma from

Canada or a foreign qualification that is equal Canadian qualification. Those who have attained

one and two-year post-secondary education get a score of 15 points while with more than three

years post-secondary education has a score of 30 points. Those with a professional qualification

that requires licensing by the provisional regulatory organization and doctoral degree also get 30

points.

Experience (Highest point of 15)


Experience points are awarded on the number of years that an individual has spent in full-time

work. They are awarded on ascending order with those who have the least experience getting the

lowest points. An individual with one year experience gets 9 points, 2-3 years gets 11 points and

4-5 years get 13 points. Those with more than six years of experience gets 15 points.

Age (Highest points 12)

The age of the point is determined when the centralized offices receive the applications. The

younger you the more points you will get with an exception to children. Those under the age of

18 years get zero points while those from the age of 18 years to 35 years gets 12 points. From the

age of 36 years to 46 years the points depreciate from 11 to 1. Those above the age of 47 years

gets zero points.

Arranged Employment in Canada (Highest points 10)

The points are awarded if the migrate have full-time and permanent employment from a

Canadian employer. One needs to get the offer before applying to migrate as a federal skill

worker, the highest point is 10.

Adaptability (Highest point is 10)

If one has a spouse or common-law partner who will migrate with them it can earn him/her

points. The highest point one can get under this factor is 10.
