Phuong has been working in three different schools:
Mt Pritchard East ~ a public school just outside of Liverpool.
Chifley College, Shalvey Campus — a high school just outside of Mt Druitt.
Punchbowl Boys High — a high school just outside Bankstown,
Workshops have been run in class rooms or the school libraries with full classes of students, a team of tutors anda
class teacher and Storyteller (workshop leader).
Summary Comments:
Phuong has been tutoring small groups of students, mostly two or three at a time, within the writing workshops. His
role is to help break down writing activities in a way that makes sense to his students, and assist them in achieving
them in the way that works best for them.
Phuong is required to use a huge range of strategies to help students work through disengagement, anxiety, low
literaey and distraction.
Phuong has been doing a superb job. had the opportunity to do an official evaluation with him last week, and he was
using lots of great strategies to great effect. I actually had difficulty in finding an improvement area during the hour T
watched him. One of the most encouraging things I saw was his skill in self-correcting when an approach wasn't
working so well, he was usually able to spot this quickly and try a different approach.
