LANGFORD ARTS

ARTS
LANGFORD SUPPORTS THE ARTS
With the population of Langford growing, so too is the appetite
within the community to celebrate the arts.
The City of Langford supports arts in various ways. Annually,
the City helps fund the West Shore Arts Council, which is the
lead advocate for public understanding of, participation in and
appreciation of arts, culture and heritage.
The council puts on a number of events throughout the year to
highlights the arts, including Light Up the Hills. As part of the
annual event held after dark, residents use handmade lanterns
and walk along the pathway from Belmont Secondary school to
the Westhills playground. Along the way, there are illuminated
art installations of various art forms.
Langford is also a big supporter of the Coast Collective Gallery
and Arts Centre, which opened its new space in January 2016
and has drawn thousands of visitors to discover and enjoy
the arts on the West Shore. It is a dynamic, inspiring centre
promoting art and culture, connecting community members of
all ages through creative expression and explorations. Gallery
exhibits bring the works of talented emerging and established
Canadian artists and artisans to the public at an accessible
location.
An Artisan Gift Shop showcases juried handmade works that
celebrate the artistry and craftsmanship of southern Vancouver
Island. Exceptional, innovative, international-calibre instructors
encourage the pursuit of excellence and fun for artists of all ages
and abilities.
