1. “ He looked at her the way all women want to be looked at by a man”
= It means, how Gatsby looked to Daisy is so fulfilled with love, full of hope and like
he don’t want to lose Daisy. The look that Gatsby gave made women like appreciated
and felt loved.
2. “ Let us learn to show our friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is
dead”
= it means, we have to always help and always be there to our friends as long they’re
alive, because none of that matters if they already dead. It happened when Nick called
Mayer Wolfshiem to attend Gatsby’s funeral. Mayer thought that show his love to
Gatsby after his death is pointless.

QUOTES FROM “ GREAT EXPECTATIONS”

1. “I did really cry in good earnest when I went to bed, to think that my expectations had
done some good to somebody”
= It means, when your expectation can made everyone happy maybe it can make you
felt satisfied. Pip finally figures out the secret to happiness, serving others. This serves
as the turning point of Pip’s life.
2. “So throughout life our worst weaknesses and meannesses are usually committed for
the sake of the people whom we most despise”
= It means, sometimes we didn’t realized that we do anything to show to our enemies
that we are the best it's just like we do things based on what our enemies wanted. Like
Pip regretfully expounds on a universal truth after scorning Joe in order not to look bad
in front of students who hates Pip.
