BSED - Science 1C

I. Objective: Identifies transmission, speed and properties of sound.

KBI: Connecting to the Energy in Motion.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic: Identifying transmission, speed and properties of sound.

B. References: Science Learner's Material 7 pages 165-174

Science for First year pages 141-147

C. Materials: visual aids, a pipe and a small speaker

D. Concept: Sound -- it is the vibration that can be heard.

III. Procedure/Strategies:

A. Prayer and checking of attendance

B. Review:

Questions related to the Nature of Waves.

1. What do you call the waves where the particles move up and down perpendicular to
the direction of the wave motion?

2. What kind of waves are light waves? water waves? sound waves?

3. Which travels fastest - heat, sound, light, or water waves?

4. Why should one know about heat waves? the other kinds of waves?

5. What is frequency?

C. Motivation:
( The students will drag a chair, clap their hands and will drop their notebook from their
arm chair. )

What do you hear?

Can you differentiate the sound from each other?

( The students will try placing their palm on their throat while saying - "What you doing?"
" Mom!" )

What did your palm feel?

Where there vibrations in the throat?

D. Presentation of the lesson:

What do you think is our lesson for today based on the activity conducted?

( Discussion on the transmission, speed and properties of sound )

The carrier of sounds:

1. Solid

2. Liquid

3. Gases

Identify the transmission and speed of the sound in the following statements.

A. 1. It is transmitted from particle to particle.

2. It is transmitted in a similar manner from molecule to molecule of gas, liquid or solid.

3. The sound that can be heard in a lower limit.

4. Without this, the sound cannot be transmitted.

5. It is the best transmitter of sound.

E. Lesson Proper:

1. Activity : ( Students will perform the two activity )

Activity #1: Properties of Sound ( The teacher will group the class into four. Each group will
be given a pipe. They will use the pipe to talk to their classmates.)

Direction: Identify the Properties of sound in the given statement.

1. The reflected sound.

2. Highness or lowness of the sound.

3. It is affected by the hearing sensation.

4. The series of echoes that is produces.

5. It is affected by the energy exerted in producing the sound.

Activity #2: Game: Circle of Sound ( The teacher will instruct the class to form a circle. The
students will pass the small speaker while the song is playing. When the song stops, the student who is
holding the small speaker will identify the Properties of sounds from the sounds that is played by the
teacher using his/her cellphone )

2. Analysis :

( Refer to the guide questions on the activity conducted. )

Question: What is the use of studying the sound?

Did you observe how the sound is reproduce?

3. Abstraction :

Question : What did we do in the activity that we had?

Based on the discussion what is sound?

How will you identify the characteristics on the property of sound?

4. Application :

a. What do you think is the reason why the sound travels faster in hot air?

b. Why is the sound cannot travel in a vacuum?

IV. Evaluation :

Direction : Choose the correct answer inside the box. And then, put your answer before the
number. ( 1/2 crosswise )

Air Intensity Frequency Vibration Reverberation Pitch

Elastic Property High Temperature Medium Echo Sound

Loudness Smooth Rounded Waves Inertial Property Sharp Curves

________________ 3. It refers to the highness or lowness of sound.

________________ 4. It is concerned with the ability of material to retain or maintain its

shape and not to deform when a force is applied on it.

________________ 5. The matter for which the sound should travel and propagate.

________________ 6. It is usually a sweet mellow sound.

________________ 7. It is usually a harsh sound.

________________ 8. It is the bouncing or reflected sound.

________________ 9. The series of echoes that is produces.

CPL: 15-12: _____ 11-8: ______ 7-5: _____ 4-1: _____

V. Assignment:

1. Music is a special sound that forms patterns. Choose 5 different kinds of song, listen to it and
then identify the properties of sound that is produces on each of them. ( 1/2 crosswise )
