for the food bank at the November meeting.
Let’s Talk Turkey
Beta Zeta has the opportunity to collect items for a Thanksgiving dinner for a needy family. Non-
perishable food items for a Thanksgiving dinner as well as other foods like peanut butter, cereals,
canned fruits and vegetables which the family can use otherwise will be accepted at our November
meeting. A cash donation can also be made toward a turkey for the family.

Hill Country University Center to be Focus of November’s Meeting

Beta Zeta members will learn about our newest

addition to the education community, the Hill
Country University Center (HCUC), which
opened in June 2010. It houses local staff and
classes from 4 colleges. Member Jerrie
Dooley, who is the Texas Tech University
admissions advisor there, will present the
program and a conduct a brief tour of the
facility. HCUC is located at 2818 E. US Hwy
290 (on the left a short way past Walmart).

Fundraising Efforts Successful

Continuing efforts this year to raise money for our Grant-in Aid program, Beta Zeta will have
our drawings at all meetings and host two catered meal meetings at initiation and Founder’s
Day. So far, at our two drawings and one meal, we have collected $176. Last year, we
collected close to $750 from these projects covering our $500 grant-in-aid with a little cushion
to start the year. This has allowed us to keep our dues at the same level for the last few years
and still give a grant-in-aid each year. Our recipient this fall is Noel Ottmers Clark, who will
graduate from Texas Tech Unniversity in December and is currently student-teaching in
Harper. Noel is a TTU student here in Fredericksburg at the Hill Country Univ. Center.

Join us for Christmas Cheer

Lindy Haley will host the Beta Zeta Christmas Party at her
lovely historic home. on Monday, Dec. 13th at 4:30 p.m.
(Please note this is a change in time from that stated in the
yearbook.) Hostesses will be Jerrie Dooley, lead; Glenda
Fritz, Debby Hardin, Sue Higginbotham, Janie Nielsen,
Ann Pfeiffer, Laurie Ward, and Ida Sebera. Everyone
please come for food and fellowship. And . . . there will be
singing!

Take Flight! The Texas State DKG convention is taking

flight to McAllen, TX on June 23-25, 2011. Join about a
thousand DKG sisters for a few days of fellowship,
learning, and fun. Check out the website at
http://convention.weebly.com/. Hotel reservations should
be made now and convention registration will begin after
the new year. The last 2 years, Beta Zeta has had 10
members attend the conventions. Carpooling, sharing
rooms and some assistance from the chapter helps
keep individual costs down. Let’s see if we can get 11
in 2011! Join the fun!
More Pictures to Enjoy from the Initiation in October

Initiates were escorted by the members who recommended them: Joyce Smith with Janalee
Hannemann; Laurie Ward and Ida Sebera with Elena Howard between them, and Linda
Kessler flanked by Jan Appleby and Leatrice Haley. Welcome new members!

Members enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Rabke’s Table Ready Meats with our own
member Janet Rabke in charge. The hostesses provided a special cake for the occasion.

Carolyn and Joanne introduced their guest Jo Murphy

from Oak Point, TX, north of Dallas. Jo has been
active in Delta Kappa Gamma at the chapter and state
levels for many years. We were delighted to learn that
she is a future Beta Zeta as she and her husband are
planning a move to Fredericksburg. Watch for Jo at
future meetings.

Don’t forget …
• Come to the Hill Country University Center for the November meeting at 2818
E. US Hwy 290. Park in any space and enter through front door.
• Bring food and/or cash for the Thanksgiving basket for a local family.
• Bring items to donate to the Boys and Girls Club.
• Bring a dollar or two for the prize drawing. All proceeds go to our
