Floor may be sway where Q is more than 0.04 in which case etabs will take effective length factor
based on 2nd graph in annex E.

Solution : Make ur floor non sway either by providing shear walls or increasing col sizes(not just one
column) or accounting basement walls in analysis.

Most consultants ignore this sway factor and rewrite it as 1.2 or design using the option nonsway. If
you do this ductile detailing will have to be done manual.

Hello sir,

I am Jeswin. Hope you are doing well.

I have a doubt regarding slender column in the basement of a building. It is a G+4 storeyed building
with basement floor at 4.9m. After designing the columns even for 400x500 sections the
reinforcements are very high. Is there any additional parameters I should specify while modelling or
in design overwrites to get a nominal reinforcement.

Please help.

Regards,

Jeswin
