better if they were accompanied by an
adult or take some samples and place it
in front of them.
Time: Teacher Input/Lesson Activity:
15mins The students will be put into groups and given a paper. Then will proceed to walk to outside and be
able to observe in a designated area. They will have a kit that contains a magnifying glass, gloves, and
a small box to see insects up close. Once they have found everything on their list, they are free to
observe some more until a majority of the class is done. When they are back in the classroom they
will be asked about the things they saw and what they liked the most about the activity.
Modeling:
5min I will demonstrate how to look for the items on their list. I will also show them how to properly place
items in the small box in their kit.

5min Guided Practice:

I will show them how to identify insects and how to tell which insect is which.

Independent Practice:
5min I will give each group a kit so they can see the items they will be working with.

5min Lesson Closure:

I will have the students pack up their kits and line up before going inside.

Assessment Methods/Strategies:
5min I will be able to know if the students learned new information by asking them what they knew before
the activity. I will also know if they did what they were supposed to by walking around and observing
how each group is doing.
Resources (supplies, equipment, software, etc.):
This activity will include the following equipment:
 Nature kit (to see insects, dirt, leaves closer)

Reflection: This is a good activity because it allows the students to explore nature and learn more about what is found
on earth and it gives them some time to walk around outside and not be cooped up inside the classroom all day.
