Scavenger Hunt
Overall Goal of Lesson: To promote child engagement with the natural world. Students will also develop vocabulary
through their experiences with earth elements.
Instructional Objectives: By the end of this activity the student should be able to:
1. Identify different organisms
2. Collect data

Higher Order Questions: How many insects can you name? Do you like being outside? Have you ever looked closer at
details in nature?
Student Activities: (Keep in mind the following: Scaffolding, Independent or Cooperative activities, Groupings,
Reading, Writing, Listening, Hands-On/Minds-On, Connections to previous knowledge, etc)
This is a group activity that promotes hands-on learning. It helps them learn about different textures.
Independent Practice:
5min I will give each group a kit so they can see the items they will be working with.
Assessment Methods/Strategies:
5min I will be able to know if the students learned new information by asking them what they knew before
the activity. I will also know if they did what they were supposed to by walking around and observing
how each group is doing.
Resources (supplies, equipment, software, etc.):
This activity will include the following equipment:
Nature kit (to see insects, dirt, leaves closer)
Reflection: This is a good activity because it allows the students to explore nature and learn more about what is found
on earth and it gives them some time to walk around outside and not be cooped up inside the classroom all day.
