Students will produce a 5-page paper based on an approved topic

about an African people and/or place. This paper will give you the
opportunity to explore a topic and then synthesize and analyze your
findings.

You need to cite at least three sources beyond required reading and at
least two from required reading.

Your must propose a paper topic to investigate for me to approve by


Apr. 2. You should propose the topic as a typed paragraph, explaining
what your topic is, why you want to research it, why it is significant,
and what resources you plan to use.
You must also submit your paper as one (MS Word) document file to
Turnitin (Turnitin scans for plagiarism, so ensure you are submitting
your own writing and that you cite any material you reference or
paraphrase from the readings, including quotes). E-mailed projects are
not permitted.

Formatting

• Your name, course number and title, date of submission, and


assignment name in upper-left corner of the first page only (this
section is single-spaced)

• Title of the paper centered above the body text and in bold (be
creative, it should NOT be “Peoples of Africa”)

• 1-inch margins (you may need to reset the default settings)

• Page numbers in the lower right corner (starting with the first page)

• Times New Roman font

• Font size 12

• Double-spaced body text

• No unnecessary hard returns between paragraphs


• Follow the Chicago Style Guide for in-text citations and create a
Works Cited page

• Works Cited page is single-spaced
