CORC2082 Sound Design for Film & TV

Learners will study and explore cutting­edge sound design techniques used in contemporary
film and TV. They will learn to create their own original sound design using a combination of
sampling, synthesis and sequencing techniques for a specific piece of moving image and
synchronise this to the chosen piece of moving image.

Outcomes
At the end of this module the learner will be able to:

• 1 Understand the application of sound design in film and TV
• 2 Create original sound design using a combination of synthesis and sampling
techniques
• 3 Edit and synchronise sound design elements to moving image
• 4 Produce a complete audio­visual piece

Assessment Mode:

1. Sound design to moving image video file (50%)

2. Selection of individual original sound design elements (25%)

3. Written report highlighting a selection of sound design utilised in this project (25%)

Submission will be as follows:
• Sound design video file 3 – 10 mins
• A selection of audio elements and designs as a .zip file
• A written report on evaluating the construction and effectiveness of a selection of the
sound design elements (700 words)
