ASSIGNMENT PLANT LAYOUT 2.

1) Corelle Appliances wants to establish an assembly line to manufacture its new product. The goal is to
produce 480 units per 40 hours work week. The tasks, task times, and immediate predecessors are
shown in Table Q4 (a)

a) Draw a precedence diagram

b) What is the cycle time for this operation?
c) What is the theoretical minimum number of workstations
d) Assign task to the workstation using the longest time heuristics
e) What is the efficiency of this line

4) UM Auto Sdn Bhd is main supplier for UM Lubricant Oil Distributor Sdn. Bhd. 10 tasks have been identified
involved in the manufacturing processing of lubricant oil item. The task involved and precedence diagram are
shown in Table 4

a) Construct a precedence diagram for this assembly process line

b) Calculate cycle time of product to achieved 50 products in one hour.
c) Assign tasks to workstation in order of greatest position weight and longest processing time as a tie
breaker
d) Calculate the efficiency based on Q4(c).
e) The production manager wants o to change the sequence of assembly line. Task H will be eliminated. Task
D has improved by adding in a new machine. New task time is 10 seconds. Based on proposal by manager,
average output per hour must be 60 products. Tasks will be assigned into workstation using most follower
and longest processing time as a tie breaker. How many actual workstations needed? Calculate the actual
efficiency. Analyze whether the efficiency has been improved or not if compared to Q4(d)
