Abstract

THE EFFECT OF PVP K30 AMMOUNT ON PHYSICAL QUALITY OF THE


EFFERVESCENT TABLETSOF DAYAK ONION EXTRACT

Background: Dayak Onion is one of medicinal plants/herbs which contains phenolic


compounds and its derivates such as naphthoquinone which has bioactivity as antioxidant and
antidiabetic medication. Hence, Dayak Onion is interesting to be developed as standardized stock
such as effervescent extract of Dayak Onion.
Aim: To determine the effect of 2%, 3%, and 4% amount of PVP K30 on physical
quality of the qualified effervescent tablets.
Methodology: Effervescent extract of Dayak Onion was produced by using ultrasonic
maceration method with 96% ethanol as the solvent. The effervescent tablets were made by
using wet granulation method with PVP K30-binding agents. Then, the physical quality of the
tablet including hardness, fragility, and dissolving time of effervescent tablets was analyzed
statistically by using One Way ANOVA.
Result and Conclusion: 2%, 3%, and 4% amount of PVP K30 resulted in difference of
the hardness and fragility of effervescent tablet. When effervescent tablet of Dayak Onion was
dissolved in 2% and 3% of PVP K30, the optimum amount PVP K30 for producing qualified
effervescent tablet was 3% (F2).
