“For the first time in my whole life, I know what I wanna do!

And for the first time, I'm

gonna do it! Whether my father wants me to or not! Carpe diem!”

Neil Perry was a special person whose filial piety had overrun his determination to decide
for himself. His love for acting had been oppressed for most of his life, that is, until Mr.
Keating had come. He found the strength to try doing what he wants, and for the first time
in his life he had felt so free. However, the moment he was given the chance to speak and
express his grievances to his parents, he was not able to let anything out. Neil looked for a
quicker way out, hence his death at the end of the film.

I had come to understand more about the effects of lives predestined by parents; and,
although parents have clear intentions, sometimes letting the child discover his or her own
self is better than trying to keep him in one lane for the sake of a sure success in the future.
Trying to control other people’s lives to the point of misery never had good outcomes, and
it never will.
