DISCUSSION 1

1.Organic compound are any of a large class of chemical compounds in which one or more atoms of
carbon are covalently linked to atoms of other elements, most commonly hydrogen, oxygen or nitrogen.

2.-Fluoride ions

-Ammonia

3.-Chain isomers

-Position isomers

-Functional group isomers

4.Functional group are a group of atoms responsible for the characteristic reactions of a particular
compound.

Five functional groups in organic chemistry are hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, amino and phosphate.

5.Chiral centre is an atom especially in an organic molecule that has four different atoms or groups
attached to it.

6.Two characteristics of optical isomer are that it contain an asymmetric carbon atom or chiral centre
and it have non-superimposable mirror images.
