Castro: Examine the domestic policies. Where they successful?
Fidel Castro formed a communist regime in 1959 which compromised the
economic, social and political policies as well as actions. Under the Fidel's
leadership, he pursued more radical socialist policies and further created a one-
party government that exercised dictatorial powers to control the social, political,
economic and cultural life of the Cubans. Fidel's regime aimed at destroying every
vestige of the old social order experienced in the country. Under the Fidel's rule,
human rights were not respected.

The changes during Fidel's regime and his leadership was non-transferable.
Under communism rule, the citizens are subjected to authoritarian rules which
demand respect irrespective of its activities. Fidel established more radical
policies through which all private businesses and industries were nationalized
and several land reforms were established. Therefore Cuba faced shortages of
basic goods and services, systems remained at the lowest level and this
problems was caused by Fidel's communism regime. However Castro try to
improve the economy but it never expanded and all the citizens hated Castro.

Fidel's regime faced trade embargo from U.S leading to sufferings among the
Cubans and further legitimization to the rest of the world as it aimed to defeat
Fidel's regime. However, Fidel's regime tried to open up to foreign direct
investments, revival of tourism, easing of international trade and legalization of
possession of foreign currency.

The factions of the society were unhappy as Castro didn’t keep his promises of
making Cuba a fully functioning democracy and instead drove the country
towards communism and finally in 1961 made his intentions clear by announcing
that Cuba would now be communist state. This system ran quite well until 1991
because of the support which Cuba had from the USSR. But after the collapse of
the USSR. Cuba support vanished and Castro faced a windy phase in which its
economy practically weakened more and that was the time people thought that
Castro government it going to end but he managed to survive till 2008. Relations
with other Countries & Contribution in Marxist wars In Africa and aided several
countries by sending Cubans.

In the weeks prior to the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Castro regime had rounded up
tens of thousands of Cubans, holding them up in sports stadiums across the
island in order to quash discontent on the island and prevent its adversaries from
joining exile forces, However, the idea that Cubans would rise up against Castro
would never happen probably as a result of the widespread arrests throughout
Cuba and the reprisals the families would have to endure, like public humiliation
and harassment. Thousands of political opponents to the Castro regime have
been killed, primarily during the first decade of his leadership; exact numbers are
not known Some Cubans labeled "counterrevolutionaries", "fascists", or "CIA
operatives" have been imprisoned in extremely poor conditions without trial.

Military Units to Aid Production, or UMAPs, were labor camps established in 1965
which confined "social deviants" including homosexuals and Jehovah Witnesses
in order to work "counter-revolutionary" influences out of certain segments of the
population, there were thousands of executions, but the camps were closed in
1967 in response to international outcries. Fidel Castro portrayed the opposition
to the Cuban government as illegal, and the result of an conspiracy fostered by
Cuban exiles with ties to the United States or the CIA many Castro supporters
say that Castro's measures are justified to prevent the fall of his government,
whereas his opposition says he uses the United States as an excuse to justify his
continuing political control.

Fidel declared Cuba a state atheist it means o religions were allowed to

proselytize. Cuban agents from the Ministry of the Interior watched and spied on
those who have worshiped in churches and in their homes. The principal reasons
of why Fidel Castro restringed the religion is beacuse it Refuses to recognize
most new denominations and for this reason Import of religious articles was
controlled and monitored also many private churches and other houses of
worship, including meetings in private places have been disbanded, boarded up
and shut down

One of the most significant changes brought about by the Cuban Revolution has
been to the lives and status of women. Before 1959, the role of most Cuban
women resembled that of other women in most countries, women enjoyed few
rights and were expected to sacrifice their interests for the well-being of the
family. Much of the success in implementing the legislation relating to the rights
of women has been achieved thanks to the work of the Federation of Cuban
Women, where Over 85% of Cuban women are members and it now has 73,710
branches throughout the country.

At the end Castro failed to recognize Cuba's need for economic stimulation
through foreign investment, and eventually strayed towards a state-run economy.
Needless to say, that decision wasn't the best. Sometime after, Cuba's intimate
relationship with the Soviet Union ended. Back then, the domestic economic
policies were a failure. Needless to say they haven't changed significantly. In
summary Castro's economic policies were ineffective, even detrimental to the
country but for other side he handle well in other aspect like the society, the
importance of the women in his government, etc.
