Tiger Lily Book Review Block1B

When most of you hear the word Neverland you think of the flying pirate ship, the lost boys, Tiger Lily,
Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, Wendy and her brothers, and of course Peter Pan. The well-known story of Peter Pan
begins in England with the Darling family. They all fly to neverland with the use of Tink’s pixie dust. Once there,
Peter Pan shows the Darling children around Neverland. They meet the lost boys and Tiger Lily and her tribe.
Unfortunately, on the Darling’s adventure, they are captured by the pirates. They eventually escape on the flying
pirate ship where Peter Pan falls in love with Wendy. Everyone lives happily ever after. Right? Wrong.

In Tiger Lily, written by Jodi Lynn Anderson, the reader learns of the stories before the Darlings
adventures to Neverland. The book is written from Tink’s point of view. She is a curious faerie who often
wanders into others business. Tink observes and watches over Tiger Lily but cannot talk to anyone because of
her limits as a Faerie. Tink finds herself admiring Tiger Lily, the girl with a crow feather in her hair. She is
extremely brave and a great hunter. She is one with the forest. She had gotten the name Tiger Lily because she
was found under a Tiger Lily flower. Tiger Lily had never met her parents and was raised by the village’s shaman,
Tik Tok. He had earned his name because of his well known, most prized possession, a clock. Tik Tok was
different but all the villagers respected him, therefore they had to respect his odd daughter. Tiger Lily would
often go out to hunt alone. One day she sensed someone near. A boy that was never seen before, but everyone
feared. She meets Peter Pan for the first time. Tiger Lily runs away, but her curiosity will lead her back to him.
She slowly falls in love with Peter Pan. She truly admires his braveness. It pushes Tiger Lily to be her best.

“She had never seen someone so fearless. And she had always thought she was the fearless one.”

She often had secret visits at night to the burrow where Peter and the lost boys lived. Peter Pan is
deeply in love with Tiger Lily. All their night adventures were thrilling and when we she was without Peter, she
was lovesick.

“For the next couple of weeks, she held Peter like a secret in her heart, lying right under her necklace.”

Peter made her feel things she had never felt before. These feelings made her nervous, but she liked
the thrill. All was well with the midnight meet ups and fun journeys until a ship from England came ashore.
When Tiger Lily went to the burrow one night, she was surprised to see another girl. Wendy Darling. Wendy’s
presence changed everything. Including Peter’s heart.

This book truly captivated my interest because of my love for Fairytales. It may not be the well-known
classic story of Peter Pan, but it is still exciting and enchanting. Since the book is from the perspective of Tink the
reader enters the brain of Tiger Lily hearing her thoughts and dreams. The way this was written made it very
easy to feel connected with the character almost as if you were with Tink observing Tiger Lily’s life. I would rate
this enjoyable book four out of five because although the story was interesting and different, I felt the story
could have been condensed into a shorter story. My only complaint was that there was too much back and forth
between Tiger Lily’s village and the burrow. I’m glad I read Tiger Lily because I felt that it brought me back to me
childhood but also kept me interested as a teenager. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good Fairy
Tale.
