Eastoke
After the war housing was in scarce supply
with the result that Eastoke became a
favourite site for the development of a shanty
town. Old buses, lorries, caravans, sheds,
railway carriages and even ex-Croydon trams
were put to use for permanent and holiday
accommodation. It is believed that one or two
railway carriages remain as part of more
permanent buildings.
The photographs were taken by the then
Havant and Waterlooville Urban District
Council.
