UNIT 2: Making Waves

1. Define each vocabulary word in your own words

Frequency
Definition The rate at which something occurs, like vibration, that constitutes a wave
Wavelength
Definition Distance between crests of a wave, like a sound wave.
Amplitude
Definition The max extent of vibration, measured from the origin line to the crest or trough
Transverse
Definition A moving wave that is moving perpendicular to direction of the energy transfer
Longitudinal
Definition A moving wave that is like springs compressed, moves parallel to the energy transfer
Reflection
Definition The change in direction of waves at a boundary, makes the wave go back from where it came
Refraction
Definition The change of direction in a wave that passes through one medium to another which is caused
by change in speed.

EX: Waves in deep water travel faster than in shallow.
