Rangkuman

A.
1. The first pillar of islam (faith)
There is no God worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is his messenger.
This declaration of faith is called tge shahada, a sinple formula which all the faithful
pronounce. In arabic, the first part is La ilaha Illallah. The second part of the shahada
is Muhammadun rasulu-llah.
2. The third pillar of islam (the zakat)
The word “zakat” means both “purification” and “growth”. Our possessions are
purified by setting aside a portion for those in need, and like the pruning of plants, this
cutting back balances and encourages new growth.
3. The fourth pillar of islam (the fast)
Every year, during the month of ramadhan, all muslims fast from first light until
sundown, abstarining from food, drink, and sexual relations.
4. The fifth pillar of islam (the pilgrimage)
The annual pilgrimage to makkah- the hajj- is an obligation knly for those who are
physically and financially able to perform it. Although makkah is always filled with
visitors, the annual hajj begins in the twelfth month of the islamic year. Pilgrims wear
simple garments which strip away distinction of class and culture, so that all stand
equal before God.

B. misunderstanding
In a remote part of wales there is a palace called morrow.
One day, at a london train station, a tarveller said to the booking clerck, “ i want a ticket to
morrow, please” the clerck raised his eyebrows, saying “ if you want a ticket tomorrow, why
do t you come for it tomorrow?”
“but i want a ticket to morrow today” the traveller replied. “ i told you” the clerck said “
you cant have ticket tomorrow today. You’ll have to come tomorrow fo it.”
By this time, the traveller was getting more and more annoyed and finally lost his temper
and yelled, “cant you understand what i mean? I want it now!”
Finally understanding what the traveller really wanted, the clerk said quite calming, “ why
didn’t you say so in the first place? Here’s your ticket”.
