It’s my great pleasure to provide this letter of recommendation for Cristiana Mihaela Iliescu. As a senior
faculty person at the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, I have had the
opportunity to see many talented medical students over the years, but rarely do I have an opportunity
to work with a student as talented as Cristiana Mihaela Iliescu.

I first met Cristiana in her senior college year, when I served as a facilitator in an ophthalmic clinical
tutorial, where students learn to do a physical examination, develop a problem and learn basic
differential diagnoses. It was obvious that Cristiana was enthusiastic about ophthalmic medicine and
very well prepared. She had an unusual command of the basic sciences and a genuine curiosity about
clinical research and about patients themselves. She exceeded expectations in the research “Developing
a Stem-Cell Therapy for the Retina". Cristiana always went beyond the average to gather data from
multiple sources interpret and present it in a way that could be easily understood and used.

Later, I had the opportunity to review Cristiana’s work during her years of residency, when she worked
at Floreasca Hospital. Her work was competent and thorough. She immerses herself in solving clinical
problems and is persistent until she has found the answers. After examining a patient with acute
glaucoma, for example, she researched the appropriate therapy for this type of disease and presented
this information to the other residents.

Cristiana sees the potential for a clinical research career combining her interest in researching with the
clinical field. She sees a career in Ragina Maria hospital as one where she will enjoy functioning in a
team, solving problems and benefiting those who are ill, as well as developing clinical applications for
her research.

In summary, Cristiana Iliescu is a very hard working person. She is totally reliable and she is very well
liked by patients, colleagues and staff, making the ones around her better. In my 30 years of practicing
medicine, Cristiana Iliescu is one of top three residents I have worked with, therefore it is my pleasure to
