    Building details result from functional use of material
    In earliest civilizations building form was dictated by the techniques of binding, knotting,
    typing, plaiting and weaving. Building in timber followed later and in nearly all civilizations
    became the basis for architectural form such as the Greek Temple. Recognition of this is relatively
    recent but is proved by numerous examples. Research in this field has established that the
    Alhambra is Granada, for example, and Moorish architecture in general, originate from timber
    construction. The treatment of interior walls, however, has its source in woven fabric (the ribbons
    and astragals of Greek Buildings) although actually pressed into the gypsum by moulds, or inlaid
    as “Azulejos” (glazed ceramic pieces). In some rooms of the Alcazar in Seville the corners are knit
    together in the gypsum finish in exactly way that the hanging carpets of tents were knots at the
    corners
