St.

Jude Children's Research Hospital

Ever since I was a kid I knew I wanted to work in the medical field, whether it was a
pediatrician, surgeon, or pharmacist, I knew it was the job for me. After entering college and
pursuing the medical degree route I shortly realized I was not on the right path. I have now
come to see that I would strive in woking in the business side of the medical field, therefore
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be the perfect place for me to be a hospital
administrator.

History
On February 4, 1962 the one and only St. Jude Children's Research Hospital opened in
Memphis, Tennessee, but even before that date fundraising through ALSAC was being
presented for the research on sickle cell disease to begin early. Once the hospital was opened
the survival rates began to rise. By 1965 a milestone was reached at St. Jude by the first
immunologic method to diagnose solid in children being discovered, and another
monumental moment being in 1968 when researchers figured out that chemotherapy is in fact
effective and when paired with radiation treatments the survival rates increase even more.
Not only is this hospital known for researching cancer and the treatments for it but also
unraveled a huge issue in the local area of malnutrition and began to treat thousands of local
children. Throughout the years of St. Jude being up and running more and more
accomplishments and discoveries have been made, allowing thousands of children to be
medically treated without the families worrying about cost.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is an answering to so many prayers. It is a place where
children and their families can feel safe while in good hands. This hospital is like no other
and that is why I would love to have the opportunity to work here. Being able to fulfill my
long lived dream and work in the medical field but be behind the scenes and run the business
aspect of the hospital would be ideal.
