Story writing is an art which can be

developed keeping in mind the following
points:
 it is a short composition with a defined
theme
 characters need to be well described
 the title of the story needs to be apt

Q1. Complete the story using the given

outline in about 200 words.

Shopkeeper and a donkey …..donkey fell

down in a brook while carry salt….felt
relaxed and was unburdened… next day the
donkey did the same (dissolved the salt)….
carrying cotton and fell intentionally in the
water… weight increased…. miserable
condition of the donkey….master thrashing
the donkey.
 Donkey And |ts Load of Salt
Once there lived a shopkeeper in a village
called, Thompson Park. He used to trade his
goods with the help of a donkey. One day,
the donkey was carrying salt on his back
and his master shouted, “Dear Terry, walk
fast with the load or you will be thrashed.”
The poor donkey continued to walk
heartlessly.

The shopkeeper reached near the brook,

and they had to cross it. The donkey was
scared to step inside the brook. It
trembled and still went inside the water,
and fell down. The master cried, “You are
so foolish, Terry. It is such a huge loss
for me!” As soon as Terry fell in the
water, the salt dissolved, and the weight
 on its back was released. It felt light and
relaxed.

The very next day, the shopkeeper again

went through the same route, and his
clever donkey now knew how to release
the weight. The moment they entered the
brook, the donkey fell down intentionally
and the salt was dissolved in water. This
angered the master and he decided to
teach a lesson to Terry.

The coming week, he loaded Terry with two

sacks of cotton. The donkey fell again
thinking that its burden would be
reduced. But to its surprise, the burden
had been increased this time. It could
hardly take any step further. Moreover,
the master thrashed it mercilessly. Terry
came to the conclusion that it was not
good to shirk one’s work. Cleverness can
be dangerous at times.
