1. WHAT IS A BGD?
BGD stands for B IOCHEMISTRY GROUP DISCUSSION. This is a student-directed
discussion forum intended to synthesize important metabolic concepts in biochemical
pathways concerned with macromolecules. A case is presented and certain tasks are
set to guide the students. The students may or may not be asked to come up with a
written output. A plenary is held after the BGD with assigned faculty.

2. HOW WILL I BE GRADED DURING THE BGD?

BGD ON CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM – CARBOHYDRATES IN EVERYDAY LIFE

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the activity, the students should be able to:
1. Trace the pathway of the major carbohydrate and common metabolic pathways in the
well-fed and fasting states.
2. Complete the tables on the characteristic of the major carbohydrate metabolic
pathways.
3. Differentiate ATP synthesis via substrate level and oxidative phosphorylation.
4. Outline the conversion of glucose into amino acids and lipids.
5. Complete the table on the inborn errors of carbohydrate metabolism.

5. ARE WE ALLOWED TO LOOK AT OUR NOTES//GADGETS DURING BGD?

NO. 

6. WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM ABSENT DURING THE BGD?

Makeup for missed BGDs will be done at the end of the year, whether absence is
excused or unexcused. Absentees from different sections will be combined as one
