CULTURAL LITERACY AROUND THE WORLD

Unfortunately, I don’t travel abroad, but When I was 19 years old, I was studying at Sena the
technician of business management, when I had a call from the Company Adecco and ash me if I
want to work at Ecopetrol but in Barrancabermeja for six months.

In the beginning I am not sure, because that job it is going to be my first job and further is going to
be in another city and I will stay alone, but I have begun to think that was an excellent opportunity
to me in my personal and professional life.

When I’ve gone to Barrancabermeja the most difficult thing was the climate because is so hot, but
I try do not think in that, their culture is different from Bucaramanga, because there are people
humbler and like to greet everyone and have small talks which that was strange to me in the
beginning.

Another difficult to me was that I strange my family, but I called them every day, and twice a
month I go to Bucaramanga all the weekend where I enjoy to stay with my family.

Regarding religion, they believe in god equal in Bucaramanga, which was easy to me but there are
a few people that are from another religion and I always try to respect.

I began to work at Ecopetrol, and all the people was humble, always I learn from them, I have a
different perspective from them that they are arrogant or something like that, but in the reality
not, in Ecopetrol is equal at the sena that respect to everyone and don’t mind if you are
Christianity, Muslim, Buddhist, catholic etc. I have made a lot new friends, and one advice that
always said to me was that I should learn English if I want take advantage and to get an excellent
paid job.

I really enjoyed my time in Barrancabermeja during these six months, nowadays I go to

Barrancabermeja every six months and stay all the weekend, I visit my friends from
Barrancabermeja and we have amazing small talks. It was a really great experience to me and I
would like repeat again when I already have complete my career and when I am already bilingual if
not happen that, then I will go to Canada.
