Organelle Research

Look up the organelles and put them in the four areas of jobs of the cell.
Include each organelles name and function. Draw a picture of the organelle.
Also draw a picture of the eukaryotic cell (both plant and animal) and color code where the
organelle is found in the cell.

Protein synthesis Waste Removal / Security

● Golgi Apparatus ● Plasma membrane

○ Produces lysosomes, packages ○ Protects the cell from its surroundings,
proteins for the cell and releases them regulates what goes in and out of the
into the cytoplasm cell

● Ribosomes
○ Produce proteins ● Cytoskeleton
○ Gives the cell their shape and strength

● Nucleus
○ Control center of the cell ● Lysosome
○ Contains DNA which has information ○ breaks down food molecules and dead
for making proteins. or injured cells

● Nuclear envelope/pores
● Nucleolus ○ Regulates what comes in and out of the
○ makes ribosomal subunits that later nucleus
forms ribosomes
● Chromatin
○ DNA and protein holder, compacts ● Cell Wall
long strand to fit better ○ Protective structure that gives the cell
strength and structure

● Endoplasmic Reticulum ● Vacuole

○ Aids in the synthesis, folding, ○ Serves as a storage unit, disposes of
modification, and transport of proteins, waste
also can contain ribosomes

● Vesicles
○ store and transport substances to and
from cells

● Peroxisomes
○ Break down fatty acids

Energy production Cell division

● Mitochondrion ● Nucleus
○ Powerhouse of the cell, break down Controls all functions of the cell,
nutrients to create energy for the cell including cell division
● Cytoplasm
● Chloroplast helps to move materials
○ In plant cells, generates energy
through photosynthesis

● Centrioles
○ help with cell division in animal cells
What organelle is the most important?

The cell membrane is the most important organelle. Firstly, the cell membrane is extremely
strong and flexible, allowing it to conform and survive in a number of different environments.
The cell wall is semipermeable, meaning it only allows certain substances in and out through
diffusion. The cell membrane will keep the hazardous substances out, and let in the nutritious,
beneficial substances. The cell membrane protects the cell and everything in it.
