STUDY OF COASTAL ABRATION OF PADANG CITY

WEST SUMATERA PROVINCE

ABSTRACT

This research was conducted in March to April 2012, in Padang Beach of West Sumatra
and in Integrated Laboratory of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science Riau University. The
aim of this research was to reveal the rate of abration occurring in Padang Beach. The method
used in this research was the survey one.The result of this reasearch showed that abrationwas
observed at three research stations, with the rate of theabration at each stationwere 0,14 m/year,
0,18 m/year and 0,12 m/year respectively. The main causes of abration process in Padang Beach
were resulted by the current and strong wave of the sea.The higher of wave's energy and water's
flow caused the faster of abration occurrence.
