1. (148 x 122) / 300 = 60.19 5. (148 x 178) /300 = 87.81

2. (120x 122)/ 300= 48.8 6. (120 x 178) /300 = 71.2
3. (16 x 122) / 300 = 6.51 7. (16 x 178)/300 = 9.49
4. (16 x 122)/ 300 = 6.51 8. (16 x 178)/300 = 9.49

1) (65-60.19)² / 60.19 5) (83-87.81)² / 87.81

= 0.38 = 0.26
2) (48-48.8)²/ 48.8 6) (72-71.2)² / 71.2
= 0.013 = 0.011

3) (5-6.51)² / 6.51 7) (11-9.41)² / 9.41

= 0.35 = 0.24

4) (4-6.51)² / 6.51 8) (11-9.41)² / 9.41

= 0.97 =0.67

χ2
0.38 + 0.013+ 0.35 + 0.97 + 0.26 + 0.011 +0.24 + 0.67 = 2.89

Since the computed χ2 = 2.89 is less than the critical value 7.815 then the null hypothesis is not
rejected at 5% level. We conclude that there no sufficient evidence to prove that there is a
significant relationship between Car ownership and Income.
