SCOPE The objective of the vacuum box technique of bobble leak testing is to locate leaks in 2 Pressure boundary that cannot be directly pressurized. This is accomplished by apply a solution to 2 local area of the boundary surface and creating a differential pressure across thet local area of the boundary causing the formation of bubbles as leakage gas passes through the solution. 2. PUPOSE The purpose of this procedure is provide a guide line to carry out the Vacuum box test to check soundness of annular joints, bottom (long seam & short seam) and welding joint for annular plates. 3, REFERENCE CODE © API-650(Latest edition) 7.3.4 &8.6 Eleventh edition © ASME Secv 4, SUFACE PREPARATION The surface to be examined and all adjacent areas shall be cleaned thoroughly and other extraneous matter that could obstruct surface opening or otherwise with the examination. Prior to Vacuum testing all joints be checked visually. ‘Vacuum Box test procedure Page 3 s Power Mech Projects Limited 4x660 mw Talwandi Sabo Project 5. PROCEDURE soya ne temperature of surface of the part to be examined shall not be below 4*C nor above 52°C * Size of vacuum box is approximately 150mmx750mm. * arte eld seam on the test shall be applied with a bubble solution for detecting leaks Prior to placing vacuum box. eter ming shall be minimized by means of unitorm application of bubble solution for detecting leaks prior to placing vacuum box. ° The foaming shall be minimized by means of uniform application of bubble solution Seen wate Shall at least register a partial Vacuum of 21 kpa or 3 Lb /in? to 36Kpa or SLbf/In? for inspection of the joints. «ach
