ABSTRACT

Leaves purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is believed to have activity as a
hepatoprotective, lowering cholesterol levels, as a remedy for dengue fever, and as an anti-
aging. This study aims to determine the activity neuroprotektan teabag purple sweet potato leaves
against dementia. The method used is a method of in vivo experimental preventively by using a
strain Swiss-Webster mice as test animals. The test animals were divided into 5 groups of which one
group of test, two groups of positive and negative controls, one control group of herbs and 1 normal
group, where each group is given the samples for 12 days and given inductor diazepam at 30 minutes
after administration of the sample for 5 days , followed by activity assay using a Morris water maze
test on day 8,9,10,11 (hidden platform) and day 12 (probe trials). The results demonstrate that
steeping tea bag leaves purple sweet potato has activity neuroprotektan with potential 3 times better
than the normal group and can improve spatial memory in animal models of dementia which has
activities similar to the piracetam as the positive control group and the comparison group herb gotu
kola that can be seen from time latency and error (errors) mice in finding the platform using the
Morris water maze test equipment. From this study it can be concluded that the purple sweet potato
leaves can be used as neuroprotektan in dementia with a confidence level (p> 0.05) using LSD
analysis.
