FERRIES SHIP

Ferries are ships that meet sea shipping requirements and are purchased for
permanent transportation purposes; for example between islands. Ferries are
used for crossing facilities, including crossing land vehicles.
In Selayar Island, the ferry used is a type of KMP (passenger motor boat)
such as KMP Bontoharu. KMP Bontoharu is a ship operated by PT Asdp
Indonesia. KMP Bontoharu serves the crossing route from the port of Bira to
the port of Pamatata Selayar two times a day.
KMP Bontoharu has quite complete facilities such as life vest and lifeboats.
KMP Bontoharu in addition to transporting passengers also transports buses,
trucks, MVP cars, motorcycle and etc.
The time needed for crossing from bira to selayar is 2 hours if the weather
is in good and approximately 4 hours in bad weather conditions.
FYI For friends who want to go to Selayar Island from Makassar, you have to
travel overland from Makassar to the port of bira in Bulukumba. After that you
have to take the ferry for a few hours.
