Om

Sri Gurubhyo Namah!

Some people are of the opinion that Jeeva the (individual self-human being) is little knowledgeable
and Paramatma (Eternal Universal Self) is fully knowledgeable and hence the individual self has
limited energy. The so called little knowledgeable individual self (JeevaAtma) is not different from
the all-powerful fully knowledgeable Eternal Self (ParamaAtma). Once the confusion due to
ignorance and illusion is cleared, the individual self itself transforms in to the Eternal Self. Union of
river water in the Ocean turns in to Great Ocean Water and assumes the whole power of the Ocean.
There is no more identity for river water then once it merges in to the Ocean.
If the Divine self that is said to be present in a human form is different from all pervading Divine self,
then the God has to be proclaimed as fragmented. But all scriptures described that the God is non-
dual, Omni Present, Omni Potent. Therefore the individual self and God are no different from each
other. Due to lack of self-knowledge, lead to the misconception that the small cage of human body
and mind is perceived as the individual Self. Hence once this misconception is cleared, the conviction
that all these diversely looking forms and names together is one indivisible divine self that is the
whole body of bliss or SadaaSiva. The standard from the scriptures is “PaasaBandhasya Jeevasya
PaasaMuktahsSadaaSivah!”
We know that the enlightened assume great powers like for example Maharishi VishwaMitra has
done creation of another universe, many Rishis can know things far and beyond by way special
powers such as Remote vision, audition, face & mind reading etc. This is nothing but due to
clearance of confusion on limited self and assuming synonymy with the greater divine universal self.
Besides the broad perceptive distinction is that the individual self is that which is with form and
name and on the contrary the universal divine self is Formless and Nameless devoid of any traits.
The manifested characterized self has transcendental from the undefined trait free universal divine
self. It is similar to the Air in motion transcendental from that is nothing but still air. They are in no
way different from each other and interrelated and interdependent. They are different just for name
sake. Similarly the Universal divine informal self – Un-manifested and individual formal self –
Manifested are no different from one another or rather they are one and the same. Hence the
human limited energy is an illusion and the reality is that it is nothing but the Infinite divine energy
of the Universal non-manifested self.
Sruti proclaims that - The divine self (ParaBrahmam) is finer than the atomicity and such finest
atomicity has greatest energy, and because it is finer than the finest atomicity it is so invisible that it
can neither be perceived by mind nor be explained by language.
Gross matter shall lose its form, however Divine Self being non-matter it is indestructible.
Hence Sruti declare THAT as non-material and ever existent. But some dullards perceive that
JeevaAtma or individual self is like an atom and such atoms are emanated from the
Eternal Self(THAT) and therefore THAT is more powerful than the individual selves. But if that being
the case pool of several material selves together had to result in bigger material self. Which leads to
logical agreement that Eternal self also exists as material. Due to this and many other such reasons
above logical arguments are incorrect. According to Kathopanishat etc. like for example many
candles are lit by one candle, and several billions of seeds are the resultant of one seed (Banyan or
any tree) the analogy is applicable to the Divine Self resulting in individual selves.
One can know light with the help of light. It is our common experience that Sun is visible due to sun-
light only. But the truth is that everything is visible by the luminescence of divine self only. But for
THAT, Sun doesn’t shine by himself.
Sruti: “Aena SooryaStapati TaejasaeddhatasyaBhaasaa SarvamidamVibhati”

Hence, the sun-light and luminescence in individual self are no different from each other. And also
one need not doubt if blind can see the sun (Means that the blind still is able to otherwise
experience / feel/perceive the sun due to other such traits of the luminescence that can help him to
experience that presence of Sun). Therefore with the help of luminescent knowledge one can realize
the GOD or the divine self. Just like a victim of Diplopia vision can’t exactly view the facts, one that is
effected by the disease of Ignorance, that covered the luminescence within, fail to perceive the
“truth absolute” as well as fail to recognize those who have realized the truth.
Those who do not know themselves cannot know others as well. How can they know the thing
present in a neighbour’s house, who don’t know that thing present in their home itself. Hence by
realizing THAT in one’s own self, one can know THAT in everything around or one can know all. Thus
one realizes everything as one’s own-SELF DIVINE. Even though the bodily appearances look to be so
very different many, the divine self with in is the same, by realizing the divine self within a body can
easily visualize and realize that everything found around as different manifestations of THAT one or
non-dual divine self. By realizing the GOD within helps realize the one and only GOD within
everything and everywhere. Most people that are falling short of requisite level of intelligence fail to
comprehend the Truth and get confused that each cage of a body and mind oneself or soul.
If one residing in a home calls out or identifies one’s self as home itself is no better than any animal.
Hence when one realizes that He is THAT which is like resident in a home and so are all like those
residing in differently looking homes, one can realize THAT oneness in all those around and hence
doesn’t get unduly attached or possessive about all earthly bondages with relations like me and my
wife, my children, my friends, my relatives and my property leading to disastrous boundaries of
selfishness, ego and hypocrisy etc. and such one is not any different than the animal behaviour given
in the example above of the one identifying the home one is residing in as self.
The above explained phenomenon of ignorance or misunderstanding or false perception as opposed
to the truth is due to lack of insufficient awareness or luminescence within. The falling short of the
energy level for such failure to realize the truth is due to loss of the divine energy due to deployment
in sensory faculties and physical indulgence. Such dissipation of divine energy spread out in pursuit
of material avocations is lost in to bits & pieces and packets leading to distorted view of the TRUTH.
It is quite common experience of one mistaking a piece of rope lying in semi-dark light as a snake or
some physical objects mistaken as living beings in darkness that result in jolts of fear in the mind of
perceivers. But that never happens in the presence of bright light or in broad day-light. It is simply
because there is sufficient light or mental energy to perceive and visualize things around as they
are.

By mere physical symbolic worship of idols, statues, pictures or other names or forms and by
performance of austerities, fire rituals (Yajna) or pious acts of donations if any preachers advocate
such activities as lone means of attaining salvation or realization of knowledge of the absolute truth,
it is all nothing but myth and it is like the blind showing path to the blind. Only by the attainment of
divine knowledge or diving light alone, the darkness like ignorance is eliminated and not by any
other means one can attain self-realization - is the proclamation of the song-divine THE
BHAGAVADGEETA, Maandookyopanishad and many other sacred scriptures (Sruti and Smruti).

Sruti:
Jnaanaevatu TadAjnaanam YeshaamNaasitu Maatmanah |
TaeshaamaAdityavat Jnaanam Prakaasayati Maam “AjaenaajamPrabudhyatae” ||

When a small candle is lit to study in the night with breeze, due to the moving flame and wide
spreading of light all around, the light becomes insufficient to read properly, leading to confusion
owing to poor recognition of close looking letters for e.g., j & i, m & n, e & c etc., That means one
develops illusion or misconception during situations of poor lighting. If a doom is placed around
candle, the flickering caused due to breeze stops and lighting stays closely centred around the
candle, helping the reader to recognize all letters better. The same way the luminescence in a
person is lost out due to activities through the 5 senses, one cannot realize SELF and on the contrary
is mistaken to believe the opposite way that SELF means the cage of the body and mind as ME and
as a result further develops association and bondages in the name of relations called Spouse,
Children, Friends, properties etc. as MINE. For the sake of eradication of such delusion, one has to
work on preserving and concentrating the consciousness / luminescence within without spreading or
losing out through deployment of sensory organs on external worldly avocations.
Such practice of conserving, internalizing and concentrating of energy is known as Karma or action in
the context of Practice of Yogam. That is why it was mentioned in spiritual scriptures that one has to
perform Karma (Prana Karma or Yoga Karma) for Jnaana or Enlightenment, and Karma is not
indulgence in material & worldly activities and avocations.
As long as one is indulged in external avocations, cannot realize self or truth within. Just like the one
sitting at the threshold of a home facing outside, can only know the things that are seen outside but
can never know things/happenings even though they are within one’s own home. But if he turns
inwards facing inside of the home, then only gets to know the true picture within and will not
anymore see things outside. Both the external and internal scenes are not known to any one at one
time because they both of two opposite views. Therefore only by way of abstinence from all earthly
avocations and activities alone one can realize the TRUTH or TRUE SELF. Once “THAT” is known there
is not found any cause or reason for indulgence in any other material actions. There is not any more
discrimination between the doer and the done. There is no more tendency of discrimination for the
wise.

Atheists Condemned
Because Parabrahmam (Supreme Self is BEYOND the visible CREATIONS) is described as devoid of
any form and name, some atheists argue that it is better to say that nothing of the sort as SUPREME
SELF exists at all. It is not wise to say so, just because something is not visible to the naked eye or not
experienced with the help of physical senses. Even if there is no movement of air sometimes, due to
which we don’t experience its presence with the help of sense of touch of the skin, it still does exist,
isn’t it? Otherwise the living beings can’t survive. Because the survival of living beings is not affected
by lack of movement of air, truth that air still exists is inferred. Similarly THAT absolute
consciousness or existence which is referred to as SUPREME SELF is the reinforcement for the entire
visible universe that is full of mobile and immobile material things all over and
appearing severally. But for THAT or other than THAT there is no universe. Without that supreme
self’s energy that is filled within, everything dies and vanishes. Therefore the entire creation is
dependent on THAT, the life force infused from the SUPREME SELF. If there is no cause there is no
effect. For the pots and idols to exist, there is the need for a potter/sculptor to exist. Likewise there
has to be cause for entire creation and existence of mobile and immobile things of the universe. That
cause is the supreme self. (THAT is neither cause nor effect; it is that ABSOLUTE with reference to
which the very term relative has its sanctity.)

“Qualitative” (Sagun) – “Non-

Qualitative” (Nirgun)
Qualitative Self is manifested from the non-qualitative Supreme Self, just like moving winds happen
from out of the still Air. Even though the moving winds appear different than that of the still air, they
both are interrelated, rather they are one and the same. This is an analogy that helps us to
understand the proclamation of scriptures that Qualitative Self is no different than the source of it
which is non-qualitative Supreme Self. And similarly, the ray of light emanating from the Sun is no
different from the source Sun itself is another example to explain the phenomenon of manifestation
of qualitative self from the non-qualitative supreme self.

From the Supreme Self in the thousand petal lotus at the top of the head, flows the divine energy
along the fine pathway (Sushumna Nadi) to the locus in the middle of the upper head allowing to
flow down further to all the organs of the body and then outwards, just like the Sun that emanates
his brightness radiating out on to this world to distribute the heat and light needed by the beings to
conduct their worldly activities, yet Sun maintains his detachment with the world. So the
luminescence of the self when flickers, turns in to mind, manifests in to energy to spread all over the
body to power the sensory faculties as well as body organs. Even though the body and sense organs
keep carrying on their activities powered by self, the Divine self / consciousness remains un-attached
to all of them considering all of those, just like mere lifeless tools that act whenever needed and
powered. The above explained distribution of divine energy of self that appears manifested
and associated with forms and names are called qualitative (Saguna) and the source or the origin of
the “self-consciousness” is referred to as Divine Supreme Self. Thus the scriptures equate the
qualitative (material) and non-qualitative (immaterial) as one and the same.

“Trance” (Samaadhi)
Most people have misconceived notions about Samaadhi as a state of trance, that it is a state
where one lies like dead stalk by stoppage of breath and / or mind focussed on some form of god or
goddess such as Brahma (symbol of creation), Vishnu (Symbol of care taker), Siva (Symbol of
Unification) etc., Actually the word Samaadhi (Trance) literally means destruction. The
attachments of I and mine, that arise out of association with cage of body and mind as self are
destroyed With the knowledge and realization of Truth or Self. Then one assuming self as small &
weak cage of body and minds attains oneness with the Omni-potent and Omni present Supreme
Self. Thus stays centred firmly with complete awareness and consciousness that is blossoming out of
such self-realization. The wrong perceptions of many and several forms and names of existence, due
to ignorance, are thus destroyed. Such state of realization of Divine Self / Truth /
knowledge/experience / Imperience (internalized firm feeling) of absolute supreme self is an
inexplicable state of Bliss or height of ecstasy. If one tries to stop breathing to attain such state of
bliss absolute, it can be counterproductive, because of obstruction or brakes to the much needed
upward thrust or movement of the life force, rather results in darkness but doesn’t lead to self –
realization. Just like how the states of deep sleep or fainting etc. (though do not possess active
mind), are not confused with the state of bliss absolute.
Therefore, blocking of breath, or keeping the mind jailed and focussed on Idols etc. should not be
confused with Samaadhi or Trance.
Ref:“Samaadhi Ssamataavasthaa Jeevaatma Paramaatmanaoh”

As exemplified above, one has to practise to conserve the divine energy within and direct it upwards
to visualize and realize the true self that appears in the form of divine light, thus eradicating the
ignorance with the help of divine knowledge is called Devotion (BHAKTI). Such devotion (Bhakti)
alone helps to realize the knowledge of true self and destroys ignorance. That is the reason for
proclamation in the scriptures that Devotion leads to Knowledge Absolute. Lord Sri Krishna taught
such practice of devotion to his friend and disciple Uddhava in the 11th chapter of Sri
Mat Bhagavatam. The same was taught to Maharishi Suka by his father and Teacher Maharishi
Sri Vyasa. Similarly Grand Master (Jagadguru) Sri Aadi Sankaraachaarya preached that Practice of
Self Knowledge is Devotion (Viveka Choodamani).

Ref: “SwaSwaroopaAnusamdhaanam BhaktirityAbhidheeyatae”

People think by mistake that worshipping of idols, with names and as forms of god, as devotion is
out of sheer ignorance and are unfortunately getting lost from the path of seeking truth.
(The forms and names and several gods are formulated as symbolic representation of the traits of
god to educate the children or similar ignorant people in order to gradually upgrade and step
up their knowledge/awareness of the Absolute GOD or TRUTH or SELF. Idol worship is like baby
steps in the practice of devotion

Ref: “Ajnaanaam Bhaavanaardhaaya Pratimaah Parikalpitah”)

“Enhancing life force” (Pranaayaamam)

Wrong practices in the name of Praanaayaamam, due to ignorance, by many people, are leading
them to various diseases. As a result many other people are afraid of
practicing Praanaayaamam. Praanaayaamam is said to comprise of three parts of activities
called Pooraka (In), Kumbhaka (Hold) Raechaka (out), movement of breath, as quoted from
scriptures as per most commonly found interpretations. It’s interpretation and translation in to
English describing it as a breathing exercise involving inhaling, holding and exhaling the breath as
believed by some English scholars and as wrongly understood and mistakenly taught to many others
and also further so called extrapolated innovative breathing exercises are causing lot of sufferings
instead of good. It is out of misunderstanding that Air is inhaled in strongly, blocked inside the lungs
for long duration and exhaled out with force in the name of Praanaayaamam. Such practice of
holding breath for long by force, in fact cuts of the upward movement of life force (Praana), blocking
the proper functioning of the heart with stress, cannot be construed as arresting the mind. On the
contrary such wrong practice of retaining lot of air in the lungs for long duration by force induces
swelling of intestine and other parts of the digestive system causing diseases like indigestion etc. and
leads to deterioration of health. It was mentioned in the scriptures for sure that a person can win
over or control movement of life force (Praana) within the body, leads to regulation and arrest of
mind thus paving way to knowledge Absolute.

But from the Muktikopanishat, it was eloquent that the belief that salvation is attained through
eradication of mind by the practitioners of Hath Yoga (power yoga – Combination of powerful and
forceful exercise of body and breath) is wrong and strongly condemned.
Ref.:Vimoodhaah Kartum Udyuktaayae, Hathaat ChaetasoaJjayam |
Taenibadhnanti NaagendramMunmatta BiSantubhih ||
Above lines mean that It is a crazy idea to arrest a venomous ferocious king cobra with the help of a
string and similar is the attempt to control/arrest mind with the help of Hath Yoga (applying of
physical force on body & breath).
Hence we have to note the fact that the life force moving with upward and downward thrusts within
the body are termed Praana and Apaana respectively.
Ref.: “Oordhvam PraanamAnnayatyApaanam”

It is because of this movement of the vital life force (Praana & Apaana) up and down, that the Heart
Beating, lung functioning in the form of expansion and contraction leading to Inhalation and
Exhalation of air.

The function or the act that is causing Inhalation is known as Poorakam (life force’ motion upwards)
or intake action and the function or the act of exhalation is termed as Raechakam (life force’
motion downwards). When the Praana is motionless/still at its peak once upwards/top of the head is
known as Kumbhakam (Still / Motionless Lifeforce at the top of the head)
While the fact is as above, without understanding the practice correctly, inhaling air forcefully and
stopping or blocking the air by force inside the lungs cannot be Enhancement of Life Force
or Praanaayaamam (Praana=Life Force + Ayaamam=Enhancement or elongation).

Ref.: Hamsa HamSaeti Mamtroyam Sarvaih Jeevascha Japyatae |

(All living beings keep chanting Ham-Sah relentlessly (meaning the life force keeps on moving
upwards and downwards called as Praana & Apaana) but learning from an enlightened Grand
Master to run the entire lifeforce in the reverse direction without any up or down motions towards
stillness at the top of the head sending up through a passage called “Sushumna” to the peak is the
sole objective of chanting So-ham or Ham-Sah to regulate of Praana and elongate or enhance.)
Hence Chanting of HamSah and Praanaayaamam are not different. It has to learnt from an
Enlightened Master having sufficient expertize and knack to Teach others. Then only such efforts
bear fruit called Bliss Absolute or salvation or liberation or self-realization.

When we think about something deeply, our life force turns and runs upwards, becomes motionless
and also does not spread out, as a result we can comprehend, assimilate or memorize very well.
Only due to such phenomenon that we are able to recollect some of the things/events that were
forgotten or ignored completely for periods as long as more than 20 or 30 years with the help of
deep focussed effort in thought process. Life Force is nothing but divine energy and divine light. That
is why Vedam describes Life Force (Praana) as Hiranya Garbh. Such life force is still, not lost out and
focussed inwards and upwards has the potential to be aware and retrieve memories from even the
long forgotten past. If we practise to turn such life force upwards always to channelize the divine
energy available within directing to concentrate to enter the Sushumna passage at the centre of the
Forehead, the ignorance will be eradicated and knowledge of the Absolute blossoms. TheEternal Self
is the source of divine light and energy located at origin of the life force at the centre of the
forehead which is facing and oriented downwards is called as the Inner Master (Guru) or Lord
(DakshinaAmoorti). The regulation of senses and body organs as well as mind is only possible with
the help of practise of regulation of life force (Praanaayaamam). All scriptures proclaim
unambiguously and unequivocally that as detailed above it is the essential practice to regulate body
and mind for Self realization and it is impossible to realize god otherwise. Hence one has to learn the
true path direct from an enlightened master, prolong or enhance the life force to its origin to attain
state of absolute bliss / liberation / Salvation (Mukti / Moksham)
Dwell

“Worship The Base (feet?)”

(Paada-Pooja)
Paadam means a place or it is something that moves in either case a base for the rest of body.
Worshipping the physical feet of a person should not to be mistaken as Paada-Pooja. This body is the
place where the eternal soul or self, dwells just like a home. If we want to worship someone in a
house, will we worship the house itself where the person we want to worship lives? Hence worship
of the feet means worship of the self-luminescent who is seated at the centre of the forehead as his
base location. He is the Master who keeps shining as the sun or lord watching over
the transition of the mind (mind is nothing but a reflection of the Supreme Self) through the 2 base
states Deep Sleep (Sushupti) / Awake (Jagruti) and 1 base sub state i.e., Dream with in Sleep
(Swapnam), the three together are the three sacred feet to worship. The state beyond the above
three is the state of complete awareness and consciousness called Tureeyam that is the 4th foot. It is
none other than the God (Lord/Master/Self) that resides in that state or seat
called consciousness/awareness (Tureeyam) and hence is also called Tureeya. It is because of the
divine blessings of the Lord / Tureeya only that the mystery of the creation is solved. Thus, being
aware, of the supreme self’s representation in every being’s mind at all times is real worship of
the base of the entire creation (but this should not to confused with the physical feet of a person -
Guru). Some well-read, self-proclaimed masters, claim to be Guru sharing the theoretical spiritual
information through their oratorical skills to many others, treat themselves as masters and all others
visiting them as disciples/students out of egoism present in them in abundance, demand worship of
feet and sometimes dictate a tariff to accept the regards such as $1,116/- or $116/- etc. So there are
out there many selfish, egoists to talk about spirituality and philosophy to extort money, earn name
and fame by way of huge publicity stunts keep longing for material gains more and more.
Worshipping the feet of such ignorant people and taking initiations from them is nothing but a
wasted effort like perfume that is sprayed on drainage or on garbage and ash.

A small interesting anecdote from the stories of the ancient Epics:

Once upon a time, Sri MahaaVishnu offered the seat of honour to Maharishi Sri Vasishtha in his
court in the presence of many Rishis including Maharishi Viswaamitra.
Maharishi Viswaamitra challenged at that incident, contested and asked Sri Mahaavishnu to explain
and justify his action. Sri Mahaavishnu setup a contest to check if they both (Sri Vasishta and
Sri Viswamitra) can manage to get at least thousand worshippers at their feet that offer the
traditional ritual of washing the feet of the wise and respected Maharishi or to see who can manage
to get how many worshippers of that sort. Maharishi Viswaamitra managed to find a thousand
worshippers fulfilling the condition of the contest and came back promptly to the court of
Sri MahaaVishnu, the next day. Whereas Maharishi Sri Vasishta could not find anybody or
anything starting from an ant to the creator Sri Brahma, who are any less than him in any aspect, so
that he can demand as deserving the worship by washing his feet by others. While Maharishi was in
such thought process, his wife Srimati Arumdhati enquired and found out the reason for
Sri Vasishta’s puzzle. She offered to pay respects washing his feet and salute. Sri Vasishta could not
convince himself as any superior deserving such respect from her. Srimati Arumdhati convinced him
stating that during the ritual of marriage, it was established that Husband was given the higher
responsibility as care taker of the woman partner, the same was symbolically placing Wife’s palm
below and Husband’s palm above during the oath taking hand shake. So he conceded to her
argument and accepted her worship thus managing with just one lone worshipper for him in the
form of his wife.

In the court the next day, Maharishi Sri Viswaamitra proudly announced his
accomplishment instantly when he was the first to be queried , whereas Maharishi Sri Vasishta,
humbly submitted to Lord Sri MahaaVishnu that he could not comply with his order to get 1000
worshippers at his feet. Then Sri Mahaavishnu explained to Sri Viswaamitra that due to the fact that
he failed to view the world at large with equanimity meaning anything everything found around in
this creation is together GOD and experience such oneness is True Knowledge or realization of truth
(“VaasudaevasSarvamiti”, “Eakamaevaadviteeyam Brahma”) he was still lacking the supreme
wisdom in him, while Sri Vasishta is the Wisest in that aspect having fully matured in his vision.
Hence the supreme seat of honour was given to Sri Vasishta. So the real wise are those who see the
supreme self and their self in entire creation and nothing else
(“Chaitanyam Vinaa Kimchinnasteeti Saakshaatkaaranubhavam Jnaanam, Naanaatva Bheda Kalpita J
naanam Ajnaanam”). Only worshipping such wise men alone can help others also to attain such
wisdom. The same was reinstated by Lord Sri Krishna in Sri Mat Bhagavat Geeta as
“Jnaaninah Tatva Darsinah” meaning Wise men are those that find only divinity all around and
nothing else other than THAT. Wise men (Brahmavetta) don’t discriminate or don’t act racially,
hence can’t find themselves or someone deserve to be at the feet of another in the name of any
worship whatsoever. Hence the wise men never expect others to respect them or their feet or
anything as sacred and deserving regards, worships etc.
