After the first meeting of our GE 1213 subject, my classmates and I decided to go

to Rizal Park in San Pedro. Upon arriving at the park, I noticed that it was behind a big

stage with an eagle as the design of its roof. The park was very spacious and tidy and it

was also surrounded by flowers and trees. There were street sweepers holding

broomsticks and dustpans while sitting at the sides of the park. There were also students,

who stayed and sat at the park, and vendors, who went around and tried selling their

products such as water, peanuts, pinaypay, and bird feeds. There were a lot of pigeons

in the area and people took pictures of them. The children in the park, accompanied by

their guardians, fed the birds and tried to shoo them away. I also observed that there was

a group of women who cut the leaves and arranged the plants around the park. The

monument of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, situated at the back part of the park, fronting a government

office, was also very clean and there were no vandals on the plaques and the walls.

If I were asked to give a tribute to our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, I will put up

a business named Las Gafas de Rizal. Gafas is a Spanish word for eyewear or a pair of

spectacles. When translated into the English language, Las Gafas de Rizal means The

Eyewear of Rizal. Based on my knowledge in my Araling Panlipunan and Filipino subjects

before, Dr. Jose P. Rizal took medicine because his mother was going blind. When he

eventually became an ophthalmologist, he successfully operated his mother’s eyes. The

story of Dr. Jose P. Rizal taking up medicine and being a successful ophthalmologist will
be my inspiration for my business. I also want to help people who have eye problems to

have a better vision by choosing a pair of spectacles that suit them and that makes them

comfortable and confident when they wear it.
